Neutral Sweden Allowed Germany to Use Railways to Occupy Norway, and Deport Jews, New Book Claims

    Daily Mail (Britain)

Relations between Norway and Sweden are being strained with the publication of a new book, which details how Stockholm aided the Nazis during World War II as their neighbours fought and lost a decisive battle against the German invaders. Sweden stayed neutral in the war but Norway was among the first conquests of Hitler. Now a new book shows how Sweden let the Germans use its efficient rail network to transport men and materials to the battle of Narvik, where British troops were deployed in a bid to stave off the Nazi hordes. Narvik-based journalist Espen Eidum spent three years sifting through Norwegian, Swedish and German archives ...

It's not a new claim, it has been presented many times before.
The Swedish king even wrote letters to Hitler, congratulating him on the war progress.

When I was an under-graduate student of History at the University of Copenhagen, one of our semester papers concerned a transfer of a German division to assist Finland in besieging Leningrad, using Swedish railway networks. Obviously, a neutral country cannot permit troops of belligerent countries to travel on their territory using their railways.

The assignment involved reading the sources of Swedish politicians, who were frantically trying to find out what solution would give them the least amount of trouble: Accept a temporary violation of Swedish neutrality and allow the Germans to pass through, or refuse the German demand and insist on the strict neutrality of the Kingdom of Sweden.
In the end, they allowed the Germans to transfer the division on their railways, but conveniently forgot that it was a violation of neutrality and resumed their neutrality like nothing had happened.

This might be news to laymen in countries outside of Scandinavia, but here our historians have had extensive debates on our countries respective roles in the Second World War for decades.

It probably didn't mean that much, besides, how are you not neutral should you have tolerated British soldiers as well (even though I read on Wikipedia's Weserubung article that the Swedes didn't allow the British to use their railways). I mean, Germany wasn't "evil" by that time. No one knew about any "holocaust" by then, right?

By the way, my grandma told me that the Norrlänningar (those in northern Sweden) actually gave the Nazis cigars and what not.
