    Spirit Wolves

Ever since I was a toddler (2-3yr's of age), I told my mother of three "wolfs" in our house- even though I live on a continent where wolfs do not exist. It is only later that I learned of wolfs in tales like the three little pigs and the wolf and the crow. I have since sensed their presence on many occasions and have dreamed of them many times even till today. That is part of where my username comes from. I feared them when little but have since come to respect and even appreciate their presence. Are their any spiritual significance tied to wolfs in Germanic heathen lore? The ones I saw and still dream about are rather big, black and have green/gray eyes. I Know I sound like a loon but it is a question that has bothered me for long!

Well, the Norse god Oden had two wolves called Gere and Freke (Geri and Freki), but that's basically all I know.

The wolf has always been an important animal to us here in the North, I don't know how it is elsewhere. The wolf has played a quite mysterious role in our history so I'm not surprised if you feel such presense to be honest.

    EDIT: There's also Fenrisulven (Fenrir):

It may be your Fylgja, as it is mine. Mine is white and appears in my dreams and I see it everywhere, it's symbolic of something but I'm not too sure what of, yet. Fylgjas are 'Spiritual guides' or your 'spiritual form' in Norse lore, apparently.

An other element could be the werewolf. Which the Dutch researcher Farwerck suggested could be linked with initiatory warrior societies.

I've had a spirit wolf following me around for quite some time. It appeared to me shortly after my great grandfather died. I'm not sure if it could be him or if it's my spirit animal

I only saw a spirit snake during a house clearing, it was nasty.

On the astral level all kind of creatures exists. Often they attach to people and suck energy.

(if you are low on energy drink Parsley juice, use several bundles)

What images come into our consciousness is a tricky thing. For me they are perceptions I take seriously. What science says about thinking and o on is a joke.

It is always best to not believe anybody but think for yourself and make your own studies and conclusions.

Btw: Geri means Greed and Freki means fear, the two main motivators of wolves.

I believe strongly every living thing has a spirit and when it's body dies the spirit is then seperate from the body for some time.

So I do believe that there are spirits of wolves. Although where they are and what they do I'm not really sure!

Sounds pretty cool though if a couple of them have decided to guard you!

There have also been 3 different times of warriors:

The Berserkrs, The Bearshirts, who gained the strenth of 12 warriors through special exercises. As strength was the main feature of the peasant class they most likely came from them.

The Ulfhedin, the Wolf warriors, relied mostly on their cunning and fierceness in battle. They most likely came from the Freeman class

the Boar warriors, relied on their nobility and cleanliness. their strength came from being superior. they had the boar as ideal as the boar when cornered makes a last stand, he attacks and his only aim is to take as many of his enemies with him. Even if in the fight there is an opportunity to escape he wouldn't.

The Ulfhedin had most likely spiritswolfs with them, molding their behaviour after the behaviour of wolves and get their secrets, strength and features.

The wolves may stem from that time and are attached to your soul.

I doubt this is the case. I am conducting some research lately and one of the things I found out is that the bear was in (Northern/Germanic) Europe considered the king of the animals. And was only replaced by the lion after a demonisation campaign of the church that lasted several centuries. Also there are legends about how bears founded royal bloodlines. It is still possible some berserkers came from the third estate, but I doubt it was a peasant only club .

The bear myth is the oldest myth of us. It is already shown in cave age men.

The bear is a sun animal, it is active in summer and goes to sleep in winter under the earth and thus emulates the sun.

The sun symbolism is also used for the inner light (being awake and sleep like the sun), or for the soul to use a modern term.

According to that you might be right that ancient noble and royal people have a bear myth/ancestor.

Varg Vikernes' wife has a lot of videos about the bear and his myth. very interesting stuff.

Also Ivar Lissner wrote extensively about the bear. (Ivar was a half Jew who joined the SS, was found out and sent to Japan to spy on the russians. He went to north East russia, connected to the natives there and studied while spying their culture and bear connection)

also the Kalevala, the finnish national epos has a bear ritual

But nevertheless the fighting style of berserkers have been pretty crude, no sophisticated. They evoked the strength of the bear, whose fighting style is based on strength. (Also often standing on his hindlegs which is rare for an animal and thus is pretty close to humans).

Thus I put the bear/king connection to the ancient lineage but not to the sophistication of fighting or nobility. It is thus not anymore an essence connection as it was in stoneage.

The essence of strength you find mostly in peasant type of work and thus the connection to the bear is closest.

Odin has wolves not bears and he takes mostly kings and noble people into Walhall. (Thor is taking the peasants and thralls ((as shown in the Harbard songs ((Harbard is most likely a disguise for Odin)))

boar helmets have been found almost exclusively with noble people graves.
