Drunk English supporters shouldn't be taken as representative of England - the vast majority don't join in on the anti-German nonsense, which is mainly exaggerated and perpetuated by low-rent media outlets. In fact, aside from the aforementioned, and a handful of octogenarian war veterans, the alleged "rivalry" hardly exists. Now, dislike of the Argentines, French, and Scots I can understand and live with.

I think England can win it tomorrow, but it won't be a classic by any means. This is the most evenly-matched of the quarter-finals and should depend on each side capitalising on errors. Italy typically plays defensively and goes fishing for fouls and set-pieces, although the lineup this time seems a little more mobile. With Rooney back England should have its head on offensively, and with Chiellini out Italy might be weak at the back. Balotelli also suffered a training injury which, while not taking him out, might mean he isn't 100%. That said, England need to shut down Pirlo and Cassano. Rooney, Carroll, and Walcott (in place of Milner) should start. As for the outcome, I'm going with 2-1 England.

As for the semi-final, Germany needn't worry; they're in a different class altogether than England or Italy, so whoever goes through, I can't see Germany failing to make the final. Spain should top Portugal, so I think we'll see the predictable end of Germany and Spain, with the Germans going on to win.

    Anyway, come on England!

Regarding the semifinal. I hope too that Germany meets England because I think we have better chances against them, then against Italy. I think Italy has more quality in the team than England. The most english players play their last big tournamet because of their age. Italy has many old players too, but they have on the other side more talented young players like Balotelli or Marchisio.
Actually the Russian team has a mountain-arab on the team (Dzagoev is Ossetian) so I guess their not completely racially pure...

I cross the fingers for England 'cause England is easier to beat for Germany than Italy. Very exciting football match England vs. Italy.

It took 120mins but the Italians finally kicked out the Greater Realm of Britain through penalties. It was a real pleasure seeing the Italians exposing the British for the mediocre players they are. It's an even greater pleasure not to have the ears blasted by that offensive vuvuzela-like chanting by the followers of the British squad. Euro 2012 has been blighted by that silly chant.

uh..uh! uh! uh! uh! uh! uh...uh repeat until the brain goes numb and you start to cheer on Irishmen and blacks in white (kinda ironic).

Glad Italy won. Pathetic watching that motley crew of blacks acting as an 'English' national team. Funny thing was the fact two blacks being responsible for the defeat on penalties.

I thought the very same when it happened, though it must be mentioned that Italy's quota negro didn't exactly perform that much better. It took him a decision of penalties to even get to the back of the net.

This is the fraudster team. Without the Russian referees this sucker hadn't won a title. Ergo a "Real English team" consists of fraudster. Very nice.

    Come off it, WestWall

This was no more a "fraudster" team than the German one that beat England in the World Cup 2010. Look at this English goal that was disallowed ...

No hard feelings. These things even themselves out but there was no "fraud" involved - just a couple of questionable decisions by the officials (especially the 2010 one )

Regarding England's defeat last night, it merely confirms we're still not a first-class tournament team and just one trophy in over 70 years of international football bears this out. We had good results coming into the competition whereas Italy had lost to Russia, the USA and Uruguay but as soon as the serious stuff started we fell apart and they upped their game Some teams can do this - Germany is another prime example - but England just don't have that killer touch when it comes to the crucial moments and it seems we can't handle penalty shoot-outs in particular.

Mind you, even though it would have been totally unjustified, I really thought that once we got our noses in front after penalty #3 we'd go on to complete the job. We almost seemed destined to win after all the luck we'd had up to that point but then those two dozy wogs stepped up and blew it all

You can call it what you want, for me, it was a clear fraud of the German national football team.
