    Red-Headed Britain

Does anyone know where I can find information about the Scottish and how they related to the Scandinavian people?

From what I understand red hair originally comes from Scandinavia. It is now quite synonymous with Britain. I understand the there were many invasions into Britain in it's early days, does that mean that the British are actually so difinitively Norse?

The relationship between the Scottish and Scandinavians mostly stems from (West) Norse colonization and rule in parts of Scotland in the end of the first millennium. The Orkneys, Shetland and the Hebrides, especially. This bond between Scotland and Scandinavia (principally Norway) mostly died out some time in the middle of the second millennium. After that, there was a small influx of Scottish people to Norway, mainly from the 17th till the 19th century, if I remember correctly.

There are no evidence that supports such a notion. Red hair is found among all native populations of Northern Europe, regardless of Scandinavian migrations.

Rufousity like as blondism is not northern feature, but it is native trait in whole Europe. However these traits mainly have survived in North Europe. The red hair is common in North-East Europe too, among the Slavs (hence among the Ashkenazies too).

Scotland is certainly quite rufous but I doubt very much that it is of Scandinavian origin. The genetics of Scotland are much older than Norse/Viking settlement there and is thus a local/native specialty.

Nonsense. Red hair in the British Isles is of a much older presence than the Vikings times. The Ancient Caledoni of Scotland were known for their red hair and large bodies! The high frequency of red hair in the British Isles is more linked to the adaptation of gloomy weather of that part of North-West Europe. The frequency difference for red hair between the British Isles and Scotland is too high to attribute it to Vikings invasions only.

False! Rufosity was present in Northern Europe before blondism! Ancient Roman historian Tacitus also describes the people of Ancient Germania as a reddish-haired people.
