    Kenaz

Is it just more, or do 99% of Heathens have Kenaz totally wrong? I keep hearing about how it's a Rune of "creativity" and "directed fire" - yet the poems make it pretty clear that it causes sickness and death. The Havamal says it can be used to kill a person in vengeance. It is a Rune of killing. Am I missing something, or is this "creativity" BS just a bunch of Wiccatru nonsense?

Kenaz is the fire of the light carrying consciousness, the fire of the gods making it a rune of enlightenment. It is also a rune of vengence under the goddess Sjyofna and is linked to blood sacrifice. She is invoked when you wish to return karma against some one who has harmed you. All runes when turned from their north facing positions become negative if turned at a angle or upside down.

Kenaz is also the rune of boils and blisters according to some.
Please don't confuse the terms "nordid" and "nordic".

According to which poem? The Anglo-Saxon poem says something about fire and princes, but that's one against three - the other three poems talk about death and sickness.

Who is Sjyofna? Never heard of her.

Do you have a non-new-age (that is, something our ancestors actually wrote down, instead of some modern "Rune scholar") source on this?

Håvamål does not say that the runes are magical, only how Odin received them. The notion of magic runes are a modern thing which came from esoterism.

It's pretty clear he's saying the Runes can perform various magical charms... unless you're contending that the Rúnatal and other Rune poems are not referring to the characters of the Futharks? If this is so, why did Egil Skallagrimsson carve Runes into a horn of mead and redden them with his blood in order to test if it was poisoned (the horn shattered and the poisoned mead flowed away)?

Were they Futhark runes or Icelandic "stav" runes?

I don't believe my ancestors were that stupid. Really, I don't. This also doesn't address Skallagrimsson's use of Runes to shatter the poisoned mead-horn.

Sorry, but archaeology tells you wrong. There are a few magical runic inscriptions, and I mean really a few. Many insist on the magic esoteric theories about runes.

Simply post a magic runic inscription here and proof your point. If you can find one, it better be very old and not just religious texts written in runes. There is a difference...

I don't see how the eddas and the saga literature could be used as sources to German culture history anyways
