    Great thread!

Always amazing - photo of earth-rise on Moon:

The backside of our Moon - we can never see it from earth:

    --------

We underestimate the beauty of the different moons in our sol system!

Saturn moon Titan with thick atmosphere (some scientists claim that Titan could bear simple lifeforms like Bacteria):

Jupiter moon Io, a world full of volcanos:

Jupiter moon Ganymede, the largest moon of the sol system:

Jupiter moon Europa, an icy world (for Nordish people? ):

Saturn moon Enceladus, a water world of frozen water outside and liquid blue water (by pressure and tidal powers) inside!

I forgot to add one of the most interesting moons!

Here´s Neptun moon Triton! One half of the moon looks like boiled up and solidified again, there are less craters. And he also has some water below ground and ice on the ground.

And that´s Ceres, the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. He is large enough to be considered a planet but astronomers decided against it at a congress some years ago. They also decided that Pluto is no planet anymore on the same congress (because if Pluto is considered a planet then Ceres had to be considered as a planet as well).

Here are two extremely fascinating videos. The one compares the sizes of the stars and the other one shows us how incredibly large the universe is.

Compared to this, we are nothing out of nothing. But on our planet, we are the best.

    Size of planets and stars

(I like the name "Pistol star", by the way )

    Here's a good one from @natgeo
    They call it "Thor's Helmet"

Before he joins the Avengers, Thor may need to retrieve his helmet—which is floating in space 15,000 light-years away.

Also known as NGC 2359, Thor's Helmet is a nebula found in the constellation Canis Major. As seen in this recently released picture from the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile, the cosmic cloud of dust and gas is being shaped like a winged helm by outpourings of radiation from the massive stars inside.

Here is a larger version of the nebula, for better close ups on the cloud detail.
