    So, my hunch was confirmed

It's Bayern Munich versus Chelsea in the final

But wait ... could this cause a rift in inter-Germanic relations on Skadi as the big day approaches?

it's pretty uncomplicated to me: these teams don't have anything to do with the town/country they 'represent' and people who support them as if they do are putting money and their 'emotional investment' into them coming over and becoming the heroes of our menz and the bedfellows of our wimminz.

(OK, you could say a bunch of semi-literate eastern euros and africans running around bumping into and kicking things under the ownership of a corrupt russian j00 is quite representative of modern London/Chelsea... but then it all becomes far too complicated )

Well, I just enjoy the sport in its own right and this is quite possible to achieve, even if one feels little affinity with the spitting and cussing individuals who actually play it ... not to mention the foreigners

I though last night's game was extremely exciting and would have had the same opinion even if it had been played between elves and Martians. My point is that it's the entertainment factor that counts and I haven't yet reached the stage where I deprive myself of such recreation by thinking of politics 24/7.

sure, I don't have a problem with stuff (I'm not a Lewis Hamilton hater for instance ) I can respect a sportsperson/team (or anyperson/group, enjoy/admire a sport/art/whatever regardless of who's making it if there's something to be admired in it, etc, etc) if I like something about them, it just seems funny to call to celebrate an 'all Germanic' final.
(how German and/or Germanic is Munich's team BTW?)

like I saw someone's online yesterday that Chelsea's win 'made them proud to be English'. I found that weird... since the only 2 English people who I remember reading about in the game got injured early or sent off early

Well, it will be at least a 90% Germanic occasion because the spectators will be overwhelmingly White English and German people rather than the stadium being full of Spaniards on the night.

It's becoming almost impossible these days to follow any international sport without having to make some ideological concessions but the fact is that on May 19th there will be a lot of happy people in Munich or London, as opposed to Madrid or Barcelona!

That has to count for something, surely?

I have to admit, as the amount of foreigners in football teams increases, my unwillingness to follow the games of the club I cheer for or those of the German national team, increases likewise. I just don't feel "represented" by non-German individuals, let alone non-Europeans.

Admittedly, I understand what you meant by "entertainment factor", Godwinson but I would never go as far as to call it a Germanic final or to say that these clubs represent any German or English city.
In my opinion they wouldn't even if they only employed members of our respective nationalities, as long as those didn't grow up in the region the club is from or were trained in its youth section but that's a different story.

For what it's worth, if going by the line up of last night, Bayern's team is still pretty German(ic):
Neuer - Lahm, Boateng, Badstuber, Alaba - Luiz Gustavo, Schweinsteiger - Robben(Dutch), Toni Kroos, Ribery (95. Thomas Müller) - Gomez

    Other European players: Gomez(half-German, half-Spanish); Ribery(French)
And the day they sold us out, Our hearts grew cold

Aren´t Alaba and Gustavo suspended for the next match? Then the ratio of German players could increase.

Well, I think we will see one Black player on Bayern side in the final (Boateng) and many Black players on the side of Chelsea. Anyway, I dislike Bayern München. I prefer 1860 München, Unterhaching or Regensburg. But I´m no big football fan.

Yes, they are but Gustavo is a midfielder and apart from Kroos and Schweinsteiger, who will both play anyway, there are no other German midfielders in the Bayern cadre.
Alaba is a defender and the same is true for the defense, the only Germans are Lahm and Badstuber, the latter of whom is also suspended for the final.
So most likely the German ratio will decrease.

The entire international football community is in mourning due to Chelsea's success. It would be tragic if Chelsea wins the Champions League with their reaction-football. Barça should remain the example. Their game borders on the limit of human capability. Even though I'm impressed with Chelsea's victory, we all are. It's interesting how the seemingly weakest Chelsea team we've seen in the last 7 years actually stands a good chance of winning the Champions League this time, but they still start as underdogs against Bayern in München.

My sympathy lies with Barça - at least when they're up against Chelsea. A team full of Catalans, who've played for the club since their sixth birthday and entertain us weekly with the best game of football of all time - it remains to be seen whether there will ever be a team which displays the same outerworldly quality of the current generation of FCB - were up against the mercenaries of Abramovich. I would've supported another English team, Tottenham Hotspur or Arsenal perhaps, but not Chelsea. And it used to be such a sympathetic, popular team back when their only goal was to stay in the Premier League and when they never won anything.

It was nice to see the Champions League final won't be blighted by yet another El Clásico this season. On that note, the inability of Barcelona and Real Madrid, fielding an array of what are allegedly the top footballers on the planet, to overcome depleted Chelsea and Bayern lineups is hopefully indicative of a much-welcome decline in the dominance of Spanish clubs in world football. I should add, however, that Real Madrid counts among its ranks of supporters a good deal of those on the far-right; Falangists, Francoists, etc., and their ultras following, Ultras Sur, openly displays National Socialist imagery during matches.

I'm first and foremost a Glasgow Rangers supporter, but follow Chelsea as my English club. Prior to the Abramovich takeover, Chelsea, as a mid-table team, had long attracted support from British nationalists, and cultivated an alliance with Rangers which survives to this day. The direction the club has taken under Abramovich makes me sick, with scarcely an English (or even European) face to be seen. But as was mentioned, Chelsea's base of support retains its Englishness, and I'm not about to throw them overboard because I'm so hot-headed as to allow my dislike of globalisation in football to ruin my enjoyment of the game.
