We Won! We Won! we are the victors that 's what counts, not what would have happened if this or that was different.
    Nobody knows that answer.

The "rankings" posted so far are retarded; nobody has even included Poland. Just this old crap of the "Waffen-SS was the best" sort, with some variations here and there.

Poland hasn't been mentioned for several reasons. Mainly that they weren't good at all. They put up a stiff defense against the Wehrmacht in the battle of Ciechanow but that was about it. I mean, Poland was using cavalry for god's sake..However, a very good move by Poland was stop participating in the Polish campaign and in turn invaded east Prussia, deeply embarassing the German army.
The Polish fought hard, specially the infantry, but they weren't nearly as well-supplied with modern artillery. The polish cavalry is superior to the German cavalry brigade. But it was very unfortunate for the poles though, Since it had nothing to match even a second-rate Panzr unit like the kempf division..

Please..read some world war 2 books and then do the talking. Anyone who is educated in world war 2 knows that America fought with raw power. And The British, seriously, you have to be kidding me. They put up a good fight, and where good at defending themselves, but what else did they do?
The Germans at one point even felt bad for the French and the British that they let them get away. The allies attempted to hold back the panzers in the northern beach zone of France, While the German's point sought to drive forward far enough to get the evacuation zone under their control.
And this including that the Germans troops where exhausted from the quick race they took from Southern France to Northern France. While the "allied" armies where retreating into Belgium.

From your post it is obvious that you don't know much about the Poles in WWII. The battles near Ciechanow were hardly the biggest ones of the Polish Campaign. In fact, one might point out that Poles were better fighters during WWII than the Italians.

The battle of Ciechanow was obviously not the most important for the Poles, but it had some effect on the way the Poles ended up. I am not saying the Poles did bad, with what they had, they did decent. In my list, Poland would be in the top 15, but not top 10 or top 5.

Post Re: What was the best WWII army for you ?

But we never lost a war, how do you measure greatness by results? or bullshit!

The Americans and the british were the best and deciding factor in the winning of the war.
Correct me if im wrong but

What about viet nam war ? huh ?

USA lost in viet nam , they was defeated by viet namese guerilla.

The American Army won the battle of the Bulge
In the beginning of the battle the american was seriously ill treat and put in collapse by german.
The German take thousands of US prisonners
The same in Kasserine in tunisia the US army was totally defeated and put in collapse
In Asia the japs kicked the ass of the american in Philipina , guam and wake and also Pearl Harbor.

For me USA and USSR armies was the worst army of WWII. They win unically because Germany had the world against her.
It's already good that Germany resist agaisnt the world during 4 years !

I doubt that this one battle "had some effect on the way the Poles ended up" whatever this supposed to mean. There were many battles, and they all had an impact on the final outcome.

Not saying that the Italians were totally bad either, but on my list the Poles would be in the top 10, while the Italians would not.

Post AW: What was the best WWII army for you ?

Oh god, I didn´t read so much crap in a ns board for a long time.

    What is the question?
What army was the strongest (overall), or which army had the best soldiers?
The israely general staff did a research in the fiftys about what army was the best in the 2 world wars. Unfortunately I don´t have the results at hand right now, but in both wars the german army was considered to be the best. In ww2 even better then in ww1. It was a ranking with points. From 0 to 100. ´
The Wehrmacht had more than 90 points, the us only about 50, if I remember correct. The us army was only superior to the italian army. (well small armys like bulgaria were not mentioned).

For my opinion the ranking would be (for the overall power/military strenght)

    1. Germany
    2. Sowjetunion
    3.Britain
    4. USA
    5. Japan
    6. France
    7. Poland
    7. Italy

    Why?
Germany was the strongest power and would have defeated every other in a 1 vs. 1 war.
Sowjetunion had masses of soldiers, enormous industrial production, good weapons (especially tanks), bad strategy though and the inflicted most german losses. without them the axis would have won.
    Britain
Good material, good soldiers, anyhow not enough of both to defeat germany or the sowjets. excellent navy and airforce to.
    USA
enormous industrial production, although they sold most of it and let russia and GB fight and bled, while leaning back and earning money. Well, we know who controls the US ;-)
Good airforce and navy, weak army as us soldiers were bad trained, undisciplined (compared to germans), "stupid" and cowardly. (sure the had elite forces, but this is about the whole army). us tanks were crap compared to german or soviet tanks.
us generelly considered the need a 5 to 1 superiority before attacking german positions, and also (at least) 5 sherman tanks for one panther tank. The could only defeat germany because the sowjets battled the greatest part of the wehrmacht.

Japan had brave soldiers, good navy and airforce (at the beginning), but they were ill equipped and had not enough industry. The US won against japan, so US is placed before japan. Although the war Jp vs. US was a naval & airforce war and a war on the ground would maybe have had another result.

France hold out longer against germany than poland, so its placed before poland. although poland fought better with what they had.

Italy lost agains France in 1940, lost against GB in 1941 and lost even against greece in 1941. Italy lost even egainst spanisch troops in the civil war. Italy lost against every power it fought. italy had good navy, even some good planes, but manned with italians. although italy had some good units. about 20.000 Italians fought in the Waffen SS, after italy betrayed Germany and switched to the allied side. And they fought brave, like most voluntary soldiers do.

If its for the best soldiers it would be
    1. Germany
    2. Japan/GB
    3 Finnland
    4. Poland/Sowjets
    5. France
    6. US
    7. Italy
