Post UK Immigration Minister Claims the Country is "Addicted" to Immigrants

UK Immigration Minister Damian Green claimed this week that the UK remains open to skilled immigrants but the country has become "addicted" to hiring foreign workers.
"Like all addictions, it takes some time to wean people off but it's good for you to be weaned off an addiction and it will be good for business in the long run if we have more an instinct that's 'let's find a British worker and, if necessary, let's train a British worker," said Green.

Green called on UK businesses to prioritise hiring or training local staff instead of bringing in foreign-born workers.

"If you have skills and talents that Britain needs, then absolutely, we welcome you with open arms; if you haven't, then we don't," said Mr Green.

Green's comments follow last week's announcements regarding new tougher permanent residence requirements for certain UK Tier 2 visa holders as well as new applicants. Under the new rules, in order to apply for permanent residency UK Tier 2 visa holders must meet the minimum salary threshold of £35,000.

According to Green, the changes are part of the government's pledge to reduce net immigration to the 'tens of thousands' from its current level of approximately 250,000. Although Green compared that task to "turning around an oil tanker".

"We deliberately set ourselves a five-year target. We always knew that it was going to take the [length of the] parliament because we could see the net migration figures rising," Green said.

Critics have argued that the new rules will hurt lower wage earners but Green claims that tougher immigration policies were actually put in place to benefit those who were less well off.

"It is actually in some of the poor areas of our inner cities that you get these social tensions that are no good to anyone on either side of them. And relieving those tensions, therefore, is a policy to help some of the more disadvantaged areas of this country," he said.

Post Immigration to Britain is greater than at any time in history. We must cut their numbers NOW

Migration Watch has this week published a short paper summarising some of the key facts about the impact of immigration on our population, jobs, housing and education. We hope that it will be helpful to those who are following the debate as the government struggles to bring immigration under control.

Amid the welter of detail on immigration, it is vital to keep three points firmly in mind.

The first is that immigration on the present scale is an entirely new phenomenon in Britain’s history. Talk of Britain being 'a nation of immigrants' is simply a fallacy promoted by the immigration lobby. In fact, we are one of the most stable societies in the world. We have had no invasion for nearly a thousand years, nor have we had a civil war for more than three hundred years.

Indeed, there have been only two numerically significant migrations to England since the Norman invasion in 1066. The first was the Huguenot migration in the 16th and 17th centuries and the second was the Jewish migration of the 19th and 20th centuries. Neither amounted to more than a tiny percentage of the population at the time and both were spread over a period of fifty years or more.

For many years, there was a net outflow to North America and to the Empire. Indeed, there was virtually no net immigration to the UK until the mid 1990s. It is only in the last dozen years or so that net immigration has shot up five fold from about 50,000 a year to 250,000 in 2010. If this is allowed to continue, it will drive the population of the UK to 70 million in just 16 years time. That means roughly an extra 5 million due to immigration – equivalent to building a city the size of Birmingham every three years just for new immigrants.

No wonder there was such a huge public response to our petition 'No to 70 million' on the Downing Street website. We got to 100,000 within a week.

Secondly, there can be no doubt that all this is the result of deliberate Labour policy. It is impossible to admit 3.5 million people in twelve years just by mistake. This was confirmed in an article in the Evening Standard in October 2009 by a former speech writer for Blair, Straw and Blunkett. He revealed that mass immigration 'didn’t just happen; the deliberate policy of Ministers from late 2000 until February 2008 was to open up the UK to mass immigration'. He added that there was 'a driving political purpose; that mass immigration was the way that the government was going to make the UK multicultural'.

Lastly, the scale of this immigration will bite everywhere – on maternity services, primary schools, housing and the health service. We are only just beginning to see those effects. And there is, of course, very little money to tackle them. The government’s case for cutting immigration to tens of thousands is cast iron.

If we take the analogy of addiction a bit further then we can state that this minister is unwilling to work on this addiction. If he really wanted to do something about this then he would be advocating that an immigration stop might be necessary to make sure that British businesses will be more prone to hire workers already in the country instead of looking outside for employees.

But he does not do that. He just says he would like to see that British business hire workers already in the country, but at the same does not nothing to prevent them from looking abroad.

Why is he making it seem so difficult to stop immigration completely? Just end the whole process and stop allowing them to come in. Of course it's more difficult to get the apathetic addicts in the government to come to their senses.
If this were to happen it would be interesting to see which figures are most affected by it all just ending. I don't believe the business owners or native citizens of Britain will be adversely affected.

They need to stop all immigration and liaise with companies to fill their vacancies, denying benefits of any kind to those who refuse to work. A 3rd Reich style permanent work record is needed.

The idea of lowering the country's immigration rate sounds commendable and is heralded as a great way of listening to people's fears --- but honestly, the indigenous population still isn't producing a birth surplus, so lowering it from quarter of a million to a dozen thousand is a bit like closing a leaky wine barrel with a sponge --- it'll hold so much, and then it'll start running again.

Think I'm preaching to the choir here when I mention that whether England, Germany, Sweden, Iceland, younameit it's all the same: Intra-Germanic migration should be held at an acceptably low level, Intra-European migration should be held at an absolute minimum ideally approaching zero (and certainly shouldn't be let's say one and a million unskilled Poles in the space of eight years) and all all non-European immigration should be curtailed immediately and repatriation begun. The life boat is full, so adding anyone but close family to it, will sink it for sure (and even with family you're going to have to be selective and will have to select but those family members that're going to keep it afloat). Dead weight of strangers, under the same analogy, should just be thrown into the ocean.

What I at least find semi-curious is that even though this is the Daily Mail - Jewish owned and very prone to rekindle old hates between brothers on a daily basis - actually mentions the fact that great numbers of Jews entered the UK in approx. the fifty-odd years before the outbreak of WWII --- pretty much the timescale at which the English and the Germans began to start with minor hostilities. Chamberlain may have admitted immediately that Churchill and World Jewry had forced him into this war - but in truth it'd been going on for the best part of half a century, namelessly and silently, and the beginning of anti-German sentiment being sown in England roundabout 1880 corresponds with when fresh Jews into London and the surrounding area were beginning to settle in second-generation and ceased to be the harmless grocer around the corner.
-In kalte Schatten versunken...
