    Decolonization or Colonialism?

Which relationship with the motherland do you prefer, decolonization or colonialism?

Decolonization brings independence, can lead to isolationism but it doesn't deny imperialism from the new settlement. Example: USA.

Colonialism with European nations as the motherlands and main headquarters. Australians still consider Britain the motherland, or Canadians.

I think it depends on how well the nation can support itself. I'd prefer decolonization for the US because it allowed them to build themselves to a superpower and expressed the survival of the underdog.

As for other unchristianized and uncivilized places I think they are better as being colonized. In the words of William McKinley "Uplift, Civilize and Christianize!"

Honestly, I'm definitely more of a decolonization type. Just like the German saying "Was du nicht willst, dass man dir tu’, das füg auch keinem ander'n zu." [= Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.]
If a nation is not able to substain itself without the help of others, it's called natural selection. Every ethnicity should have it's own nation to thrive and/or die in without any other nation coming in "for a surprise" (bad or good).
Yes, I'm a reactionary and am hoping that many nations that thrive today mostly because of colonization of other countries, will be the first ones that go down tomorrow. :-)
