    Skyrim!

Disclaimer: I don't work for Bethesda Softworks and this is not a big advertisement for their game; I'm just a really, really nerdy person.
So far I've spent 60+ hours playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on my shiny new gaming computer and I wanted to open a thread allowing anyone else with the spare time and energy to take screenshots and share them. I think it calls for its own thread because there's at least something in this game for anyone on this forum to enjoy!
The game takes place in Skyrim; the mountainous Scandinavia-like home of the race known as the Nords in this game's universe. They are attributed to being tough, tall, fair haired men with a very familiar culture to our own; basically representing Germanics in general in the game. The story you'd all find interesting as well. The Nords are in a civil war, one side supporting an ancient multiracial Empire, which is headed by racial others and cares not for the woes of the Nords, the other side are the Stormcloaks, a militant nationalist group of Nord men and women of all social classes and named after its leader Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak which wishes to rid Skyrim of not only the Imperial troops and their sympathizers, but also rid it of non-Nords!
Let me know what you guys think!

Arngeir the monk explains the ritual in which he inducts me into his order.

The ghost of a dead bard sits next to his corpse just after leading me to the book I was looking for.

Getting pumped before the Battle of Whiterun

Meeko, the dog I found on the side of some road somewhere and whom I first thought was a hostile pest of a wolf, turned out to be a fun companion on my adventures. Here's him in some barrow obviously enjoying the scenery of a dank crypt!

Relaxing outside some god-forsaken cave in the wilderness.

Some wretched Dark Elf came sauntering by me on the road claiming he was joining the Imperial Legion. Shortly after incinerating him with some fire spells, I strung his corpse up in a tree stump and used it for target practice. My bodyguard Lydia stands ready and watching for the guards lol

One of the Blue Palace's maids is escorted back to her quarters by a Solitude City guard as she talks about her desires for a golden knight...while I'm wearing gold armor

Whiterun after the battle. The preacher stands there on a nice cloudy day praising the Nord god Talos.

Reporting for duty and discussing the war.

Really mad my once peaceful excursion into the plains gets me a visit from a stupid dragon.

    So I killed it.

Lydia peers at me seductively as we watch the dragon corpse burn.

I haven't played the game yet, how did they handle the whole Stormcloaks wanting to get rid of the non-nords issue? Because the last thing I would want to deal with in such a fantasy game with a european/nordic setting would be non-white immigration and being lectured in a PC manner about the evils of racism.

I'm quite skeptical about such topics being injected into games now, as this constant PC indoctrination already made a lot of Hollywood movies unbearable. It looks as if they're now trying to do the same with the games market as gaming got too big.

They touch lightly on the Stormcloaks wanting to get rid of non Nords, their goal is Sovereignty, to drive the multinational Empire out of Skyrim. If you choose to do it, nothing changes apart from local town guards being replaced by Stormcloak soldiers, previous Empire sympathising NPC's remain in the towns. Throughout the entire game nothing you do has a distinguishable effect on the enviroment, making it all feel pretty pointless.

The guy in that video just said' "In real life women did not fight dragons, men fought dragons". What a dork.

The best part of the game is the first few hours until the first dragon fight. The rest gets tedious quite quicky, I would say its overrated. Despite its ugly citizens, Oblivion was more fun and whimsical in how they allowed you to enter alternate planes of existence and have contact with beings abnormal to the game world, it remained intriguing, Skyrim is hours of you running around in Skyrim, the most exciting part was assassinating the Emperor of your enemy faction.

The character creation is also fun.

Life is a well of delight; but where the rabble also drink, there all fountains are poisoned.

What does "feminism" have to do with that a guy cant just go to a woman he doesnt know and ask her to strip for him? What a BS, mr ramzpaul

But that aside, the game seems to be rather un-PC, and may well have a PC-undermining effect, since it is on all accounts a valid demand to keep your land that your folk founded and built up. Also the enemy, that multiracial empire that tries to take Skyrim may well turn out to increase awareness towards real life similarities, because the hero fights them to keep Skyrim intact, so gamers will spend hours upon hours defending Skyrim against the imperial, multicult, foreign hordes.

The good thing about fantasy games that are made for long gaming experience is that they usually lack "diplomacy". You simply kill the enemy. When it has a red circle around it, you better kill it because otherwise it will kill you. Us and them has very clear distinctions, and may even help to raise awareness. It would entirely undermine the game experience if an enemy suddenly would ask for "tolerance" for example

Whilst I haven't yet aligned my character with either side, my learned friend informs me that whilst I may find it more appealing to join the Stormcloaks and fight against "globalization", this is exactly what a sinister third party want you to do, the Dark Elves I believe, setting the two sides against each other and hoping the resultant fragmentation of power will make it easier for their plan of world domination, (or something?).

Now I wonder which real life race the dark elves might represent?

I have it, but think I've only played 15 minutes on it. Games are not as fun as before. I got Battlefield 3 too, not much fun either.

    I like Starcraft 2 though.

Understandable. Most newer video games are derivative and boring, they are made only to sell and appease the crowd, not to make, well, good games
Skyrim looks absolutely amazing, from what I've seen of it. Something I would no doubt get way, way, WAY too into and never come out

I haven't played it yet, but if it does have some PC anti-racist undertones, I hope I can overlook it (I have gotten good at that, provided it's not TOO in-your-face), and it would be quite odd, since Fantasy is hands down the most Germanic-friendly fiction genre, look at LOTR, for one. The entire genre of fantasy fiction is indeed based on Germanic mythology (LOTR, once again, along with literally countless fantasy works), so it would make NO sense for an epic-fantasy game like Skyrim to have PC undertones, its an oxymoron.
Yes, there are leftist undertones in some fantasy works (ahem, Michael Moorcock), but it is the exception, not the rule, and the same can't be said about other genres of fiction at all.
Remember, I haven't played the game (yet), but i'm basing this on what I know. Yes, the game does have mild PC undertones, but since it's hugely character-driven, I'm sure you can make choices in the game that make it less PC, like playing as a Nord instead of a Dark Elf, etc, so the PC undertones CAN be avoided, unlike some other games and most Hollywood movies where its shoved in your face.

I'm wavering on joining the Stormcloaks, TBH. For one, I'm bugged by the idea of forcibly conquering Whiterun. 90% of the people there have been pretty nice to me. Second, I have a feeling that the Thalmor scumbags are manipulating the Imperials and Stormcloaks into war in order to weaken Skyrim. And shouldn't we deal with all these dragons first?

My character is a Nord who mostly focuses on heavy armor/shields/smiting. I'll get some pictures up when I get back to my gaming PC.

Well, at least you gave it a fair chance to immerse yourself in the gameworld

Skyrim was a huge surprise for me. Many games are boring for me too nowadays, but Skyrim never bored me for a moment. Well, maybe the first 15 minutes when i wasn't immersed yet

Still, this game takes a lot of time, time i barely have

I haven't tried Skyrim yet, because my laptop doesn't meet the minimum requirements and because I don't have time for gaming these days, but I know it's exactly my kind of game. I did some research on the storyline because I heard about the nationalist faction, and happened to come across the following proclamation by the Dunmer (which is the dark-skinned elven race). Very provocative.

A proclamation of Dunmer supremacy in eastern Skyrim

Dunmer. That is our name. Yet you deny us even this courtesy. You, the white-skinned, jaundice-haired apes of this godsforsaken frozen wilderness. To you Nords, we are the gray ones, the ashen-skinned, the "dark elves" of Morrowind who have as much place in your land as an infection in an open wound.

Oh yes, we have read your great cultural work, "Nords of Skyrim," in which you extol the many virtues of your people and province, and invite any visitors to come experience your homeland for themselves. Well come we did, Nords, and the reception was less than was promised - but exactly what we expected.

So I, Atal Sarys, Dunmer and immigrant to Skyrim, have decided to answer your beloved book with a work of my own. And let all who read it know that Nords are not the only race to reside in this cold and inhospitable realm. For we dark elves have come, and little by little, shall claim Skyrim as our own.

But where, you may ask, have we taken up residence? Why none other than the ancient city of Windhelm, once the capital of the First Empire. Yes, Nords, in the shadow of your own Palace of the Kings, where the Nord hero Ysgramor once held court, we now thrive. Oh yes. Your beloved Five Hundred Companions may have driven our ancestors from Skyrim, but that was then. This is now.

Indeed, one might be surprised as to just how well we've settled into Windhelm. The district once known as the Snow Quarter is thus named no more. Now, they call it the Gray Quarter, for such is the reality of the Dunmer occupation. The district is now populated entirely by my kind, a victory not lost on its residents.

Oh, but the peaceful occupation goes even further. Thirsty? You'll find no Nord mead hall in the Gray Quarter. But the spirits flow well enough in the New Gnisis Cornerclub. Seeking a respected family? You'll find no Gray-Manes within these walls. But perhaps you'd like to pay a visit to the home of Belyn Hlaalu, descendant of one of the most noble houses in all of Morrowind. Ah, but no. You Nords don't come to the Gray Quarter, do you? You fear our streets as you fear our skin.

So now, "children of Skyrim," you have the truth of it. You may call this province home, but you can no sooner claim to own it than a cow can claim to own its master's field. You are just another breed of domestic animal, grazing stupidly while higher beings plot your slaughter.
