Israeli Supreme Court Upholds Race Laws

Supreme Court upholds ban on Palestinians living with Israeli spouses

Israeli judges were divided in their stance on the Citizenship Law, with six justices voting to uphold it and five opposing it.

Civil rights groups had petitioned the court to overturn the law, saying it was unconstitutional.

“Human rights do not prescribe national suicide,” Judge Asher Grunis wrote in the judgement.

The law was introduced in 2003, with the government citing security concerns and the need to ensure Israel remains an ethnically Jewish-majority state.

Human rights activists and Israeli Arab politicians condemned the court’s decision.

The court “had failed the test of justice”, said Israeli Arab MP Jamal Zahalka of the left-wing Balad party.

“It is a dark day for the protection of human rights and for the Israeli High Court,” lawyers from the Association for Civil Rights in Israel told AFP.

“The ruling proves how much the situation regarding the civil rights of the Arab minority in Israel is declining into a highly dangerous and unprecedented situation”, Israeli Arab civil rights group Adalah, one of those that brought the petition, said in a statement.

The Citizenship and Entry Law was passed in 2003, during the second Palestinian uprising, as waves of suicide bombings targeted Israeli cities.

Many were launched from the West Bank, some with the help of local Israeli Arabs.

Initially, the strict law was an emergency legislation, which has since been extended periodically.

It was temporarily amended in 2005, allowing women over 25 and men over 35 to apply for temporary work permits to live in Israel, but still ruling out citizenship for all cases.

In 200, the law was expanded to apply to people from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

Oh the irony. How bitter the medicine must taste that they themselves preach in other countries for themselves, wail for "human rights" 'n stuff, but in their country, nah...

    Learn, "western" politraitors:

Human rights do not prescribe national suicide

Exactly, all they do is constantly whine about how everyone is racist to them, that everyone discriminates against them and they're immediately up in arms at the slightest hint of any anti-semitism, either real or perceived. The truth is that many Jews in Israel are some of the most racist and bigoted people on the planet. They are even incredibly racist among their own kind, with many Ashkenazi Jews looking down on their "inferior" Sephardic kin and now all this drama about Ultra Orthodox Jews harassing and calling a young girl a "whore" because she wasn't dressed according their strict religious standards.

Can you imagine what it would be like if the UK or the US or any other Western nation tried to ban immigration from certain nations? There would be an international uproar, and the human rights lawyers would have a field day, but Israel can somehow get away with whatever it wants. Anyone who claims that Israel is the only democratic state in the Middle-East is so very wrong it isn't funny, as far as I'm concerned they're pretty much just as insular and fascist as the nations surrounding them !!!

Yes, it's interesting how Jews are extremely "leftist" and "liberal" when in other countries than their own. If any European country had passed such a law, the Jewish people there would most likely be furiously against it.
