Animals in Ancient Europe and North America

Modern hippopotamus lived in warm, temperate conditions in Europe during the late Ice Age and the Asian water buffalo had an extinct European relative.

Giant lions were roaming around Britain, Europe and North America up to 13,000 years ago, scientists from Oxford University have found.

Cheetahs, woolly mammoths and relatives of the camel were just a few of the large mammals that roamed America during the Pleistocene era, which ended 10,000 years ago as the last Ice Age retreated. Studies have shown that their demise was due largely to hunting by humans, not from climate change, as one theory held.

Giant lions in Britain sounds brutal as all get out. Current lions are beasty enough let alone a variant 25% larger.

The hypothesis about the lion's decline in Britain is rather interesting, along with the typical climate change and loss of prey spiel there was a mention of a possibility for humans taking these beasts down. Just imagine how tough a man has to be to take down a normal lion without modern weapons then amplify the task by 25% given this variant of lions greater stature and increased lethal potential granted by that stature. Truly stunning!

Yes we all found lot and lots of mammoth bones in the northsea, we all have at least one mammoth bone.

    A mammothskull

Before this piece of land was flooded.
And that part became the northsea.

Look how big the Netherlands was

There is a blog called Twilight Beasts about this very subject.

    https://twilightbeasts.wordpress.com/

Might be of interest - mammoths and the qilin, the Germanic word *hwalaz etc.
