1700 'Stateless Refugees' to Receive Citizenship

Approximately 1700 stateless Palestinians will now receive Danish Citizenship. This is the reality after Folketinget today passed the Law of Native Birth.

Among the stateless Palestinians is one whom the Police Intelligence Service believes to be a threat to the security of the country. 36 are already convicted for various forms of crime.

It was therefore not without criticism that the Liberal Party today agreed to the law. Speaking to Folketinget, Liberal spokesman on justice Karsten Lauritzen carefully listed the crimes of the 36. The list includes everything from violating domestic peace to forgery of evidence to violence and deadly threats.

Despite these crimes the Palestinians have the right to receive Citizenship according to a convention that Denmark is signatory to.

Sophie Hæstorp Andersen from the Social Democrats cannot understand why the Liberal Party wants to make a big deal out of the few who have committed crime.

-When will the Liberal Party learn that you are still protected by the convention, even if you have committed a crime, she asked.

Despite their reservations the Liberal Party in the end voted in favour of the bill. Karsten Lauritsen gave this reason:

We do not feel that the 1700, who are well-integrated and fulfills all requirements, should be held as hostages in this affair and therefore we will vote 'Aye' on this bill.

Translation is my own, as are the emphasised parts.

I am looking for a genteel word to describe this vote, but the worst I can think of is 'asinine' and it just does not quite seem to cover it.

It is mind-boggling that both the sides in this issue are perfectly aware of the problem but still vote in favour for no better reason then to obey some international convention that was written by people with no interest in Denmark or its people.

What I mean here is that the entire thing was part of the original article, but that I emphasised two parts that I believed was most important.

Oh, those people who wrote this convention do have an interest, and that is to wipe off every national state on earth to establish their One-World Utopia. It comes under a guise of fancy stuff like human rights and what not and so sounds like a "nice idea" in theory, that's why people somehow "believe" in this sort of stuff. But like most of these Ivory Tower ideals, it turns out to be bad for 99% of the people.

The crimes of these people arent even the worst thing, and it also is no really valid argument to oppose such a bill, because the argument is outvoted 1664 : 36, you see. The argument should be about identity, and that Denmark will no longer be Denmark without Danes, and that you cant let in 200+ other ethnicities with other ideas of what constitutes a good life, of what is right and wrong and what not and let them have a say in the future of Denmark.
