    Question About Making Runes

So, I'm new to Germanic Heathenry and Runes. I recently started reading Teutonic Magic by Gundarsson (after perusing many others), and decided to give it a go. I read all the up to the section which describes each rune, it's meanings, and uses. At which point I decided to create my own set in order to help me learn them and have something physical to meditate with/on. I went outside, chose 24 stones (mostly calcite) and proceeded to try and carve the runes. However, no tool I had would make a scratch in the stone. I decided to skip the carving, and simply paint the runes with my blood. From what I read, the blood will stain the stone, and as a precaution, I coated the runes with a layer of wax. I did my best to meditate while working, and i have yet to load the runes because I want to know if carving is a necessity. I am happy with they way they turned out, but also don't want anything bad to happen when I use them. Anybody have experience or advice for me?

The runes can be made using many different items. The best that I found are nut bearing trees. With stone, and not being able to carve into them, the blood may come off over time and use. Also, not sure how you meant it, but worried what will happen to them or to you if you use them? The blood could wear off, then you are back to square one. If you are worried about yourself, they are not a ouija board, no bad will happen to you from their use.

My personal set, I cut from a hazelnut tree. I used a dremel tool mounted and with a special bit to carve the runes. I then used my blood mixed with a red oche powder and painted them. I then sanded any paint that stained the edges and from use, they have been sealed by my own oils from my hands. They are still vibrant and beautiful as if I had just made them yesterday.

Well no, they aren't ouija boards, I wouldn't expect demonic possession, etc. However, I do want to be careful while venturing into this new territory. Reading Jotun's post on this thread is what made me wonder.

I actually am very happy with they way the runes turned out. They aren't shiny like the picture. I know that the blood will most likely come off in time, but I simply wanted to get things going while I devised a way to carve the runes (I'm thinking an HCL dilution would work well).

--Just realized that a file would probably do the trick!

I like using wood, it's easy to work with. And they are once living so that gives it another positive attribute.

    Same here.

I cut the rune discs, then burn the runes into them. When I burn them in, they make small depressions where the wood is burnt away. I then scrape this out and do it again until I have the depth I want.

The set I made last week, I did the burn/dig/burn nine times, since nine is a significant number.

As long as you do it with respect, I don't think there's a "wrong" way.
