    Germans in Namibia

When what is today Namibia was German Southwest Africa, several thousands of Germans settled there. Are the descendants of the settlers still there? I have heard Windhoek described as "the only German city in the Southern Hemisphere".

Swakopmund and Walvis Bay have some Germanics still living there. I'm sure there are many other towns that have them, as well.

A lot of neat German colonial architecture still exists there.

Yes, a fair number of them are still there. Many of these Sudwest Deutschen aka German "Namibians" also have residence in South Africa, Cape Town in particular.

A novelty fact which may or may not interest you, it's not uncommon for local blacks in Namibia to still know / speak a bit of German, for example at petrol filling stations.

Yes, it's called "Küchendeutsch" (kitchen German), or officially called NBG Namibian Black German. I don't know if it's only spoken in Windhoek or somewhere else as well.
