    Question Wuthering Heights

...A number of stars have been linked to the project, with Natalie Portman and Gemma Arterton both up for the role of Cathy, while Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick and Michael Fassbender were being courted for the male lead.

But when Arnold came aboard this new adap, she swept out the old and set about her own casting. And it looks like she’s going for young actors, in line with Brontë’s original text.

The role of Cathy's beau, Heathcliff, has yet to be cast, though a call has been sent out for a 16-24-year-old who is “genuine Romany Gyspy/South Asian/Mediterranean/Indian/mixed race” in appearance.

An unknown black actor has landed the role of Heathcliff in a big-screen adaptation of Wuthering Heights.

James Howson is believed to be the first non-white actor to star in the role in any screen adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic 1847 novel.

Howson, who is in his early 20s and from Leeds, will follow in the footsteps of Hollywood legends Laurence Olivier, Ralph Fiennes and Timothy Dalton.

Andrea Arnold, the Film4 movie’s Oscar-winning director, has been filming key scenes at Moor Close – in the North Yorkshire Moors.

    Laurence Olivier (1939)
    Ralph Fiennes (1992)
    Tom Hardy (2008)
    James Howson (2011)

First-time actor James Howson leads what could be the hottest cast in a Wuthering Heights film yet.
As the sexed-up adaptation's director Andrea Arnold shot the film under secrecy last year, the young man from Leeds let slip he was playing the main protagonist Heathcliff.
He had looked worse for wear after attending a party to mark the end of filming in the village of Thwaite, North Yorkshire.
James is the first black actor to play Heathcliff, following the portrayals by Laurence Olivier in 1939, Timothy Dalton in 1970, Ralph Fiennes in 1992 and Tom Hardy in 2009.
Cliff Richard also put the play on stage and cast himself in the main role.
But he may be perfect for the part.
Emily Bronte described Heathcliff as a 'dark-skinned gypsy in aspect and a little lascar' in her classic 1847 novel.

Yes, I've read Wuthering Heights and I've seen the 2011 version of the film. I find colour-blind casting rather pointless and tiresome, the latest example being the remake of Picnic at Hanging Rock.

I've read Wuthering Heights a long time ago and I don't remember how it goes.

I should add that I don't like color-blind casting either. I don't like seeing interracial couples in general. I wouldn't watch the movie starring James Howson.
