    NE Montana

My great grandmothers last name was Heinzman and her family came from Russia. They first settled in South Dakota. I am not sure how she met my great grandfather who was Scotch and Austrian. Anyway they homesteaded in Northeast Montana south of Scobey.

Iam reading this book at the moment where documents reveal the allies purposefully caused the death of between 9 and 14 million Germans after the war had ended by starvation. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crimes-Merci...0339042&sr=1-1

One of the few groups who tried to provide aid from America, (although the Allies refused to allow it to be admitted into Germany), was the Mennonites, so hats off to the mennonites!!!!

Does your grandfather speak like this? My grandmother spoke exactly like the woman in the video, this dialect always puts a smile on my face.

I'm also a descendant of Black Sea Germans. My paternal grandparents lived in Alt-Posttal (today Malojaroslawetz II in Ukraine ) Due to poverty their ancestors had emigrated from Württemberg to what was then "Bessarabia". My grandparents were both born there and after the resettlement agreement between Germany and the Soviet Union they were forced to leave their home and almost everything they owned behind in late 1940. They found a new home in West Prussia, where my father was born. However only for a short time. Again they had to flee from the Soviets, this time they could not take much more than the clothes they were wearing with them. So my grandparents arrived in a refugee camp in Northern Germany completely penniless and soon after moved to their ancestral homeland Württemberg.

I really do not understand that Germans from Russia who came back after the end of the Soviet Union identify so much with the country that oppressed them or their parents for decades! It's a disgrace! My grandparents lived there, but they never mixed with the locals, they co-existed peacefully, traded etc., but only married other colonists from Württemberg.

Four of my great-grandparents were Wolgadeutsche.

Grandfather born there, grandmother's parents born there. She was born in Colorado, and spoke German as her first language (taught in the local public school, until World War I).

We are a dying breed. Most don't give a damn about the heritage...God knows our forebears suffered far worse than a certain other breed with brand-name sufferings.
