Interesting and very warlike and nomadic Germanic tribe. I can remember reading one instance where a Gothic horde of approximately 100,000 Goths crossed over into Roman territory towards the end of the Roman Empire for battle, imagine having to deal with that!

The Goths are intresting, they were allied with the Romans then they counquered the Romans
I beleive they are the only tribe to say they sacked both Rome and Constantinople
They also built massive naval fleets on the Aegan and Black sea
Intresting note is the Romans used the Goths to fight the Franks, then later they hired the Franks to fight the Goths--but then both tribes eventually broke the Rman empire in the west

I wish Theodoric was as widely remembered as Charles. Why are the Franks better reputed than the Goths? The Vatican press tried to write off Arian greatness and play up Popery in the relationship between the "Holy Mother Church" and its "First Daughter".

I'm not sure who, but I know the Vandals got their name for a reason.
Vandal comes from the east Germanic word for wanderer and they caused very little damage. They had made a deal with Pope Leo I and so they just took a lot of money and Eudoxia, who's request for aid brought Geinseric to Rome in the first place. The East Germanic tribes are unduly frowned upon in modern times.
