    Tired MyTrueAncestry.com

Anybody upload their info here? What are your results? This is a very Germanic-friendly (or I am just overwhelmingly Germanic) and free DNA file analysis website.

My Germanic total is 78.59%, with Celtic 21.41% filling the rest and I would say this makes sense for an Englishman, with Britons, Saxons, Danes and Normans the top percentages (all above 10%) in historical order.

My maternal mtDNA U8b-K2a5a1 is most like the Celtic-Saxon Hinxton [Cambridgeshire] Iron Age (67 BC) genetic sample.

My most distant match is Scythian Moldova (290 BC), probably from the Völkerwanderung.

Of course I am otherwise paternally closest to the genetic sample of Norwegian Viking Iceland in 1000 AD, helped by my R1a-Z284 Y-DNA haplogroup subclade.

It's unsurprising that I am closest to Cornish and English in the top two modern populations, although both Gedmatch and YourDNAPortal have them English before Cornish. All of the populations are North Sea-related.

PCA charts look good, placing me in Northwestern Europe.

Parsed results by subcategories show typical majorities of West, North and East Germanics followed by Insular and Continental Celtics. Of West Germanics, I am strongest Saxon and weakest Alemannic. Of North Germanics, I am weakest Icelandic and Norwegian. Of East Germanics, I am weakest Rugii. Of Celtics, Continental is almost non-existent.

For modern populations, I'm consistently closest to the whole Tudor Kingdom of England and Wales, the whole Orangist Kingdom of the Netherlands and Belgium, with Denmark, but it's unclear whether I'm closer to Orkney or Scotland and those are the most distant.

I see we share most of the same genetic ancient and modern populations, save that you have Belgae and I have Visigoth in the former; you have North German, Irish and French, whereas I have North Dutch, Orcadian/Scottish and Welsh in the latter. Whereabouts do your kinfolk come from? I've 6/8 English great-grandparents with 2/8 each from Northumbria, Mercia and Wessex. My 2/8 Continental are analysed by MDLP 23b as Frisian and Belgian, which would fit East Anglia, say by a division of Norfolk/Suffolk and Essex/Middlesex.

All right now, I put my file back into the website, because of noticing the Belgae as an ancient population that wasn't there the last I saw. Lots of new features now, especially the haplogroup explorers and a surprising result came to my attention!

I match Somerled, King of Argyll and the Isles, who was not just Z284 (Scandinavian R1a; all that I already knew of myself before this) and L448 (Younger Scandinavian) beneath that, but L176.1/S179.1 (Orcadian) in particular, making me a prospective member of MacDougall, Donald, MacRory, MacAlister clans. This means that I'm Norse-Gael after all and that matches given names of the men in my family, only much intermarriage has autosomally shifted me some distance away. LOL, does this explain my former infatuation with Karen McDougal and former employment at McDonald's? I now have a real decent reason to use the byname of Dubhgall, seeing as how one of Somerled's sons was named Dugald and founded the clan of his name, although I definitely like the name Rodskarl. I have theorised that my father-in-law is of Galloway origins and that his surname is a Norse-Gael toponym, but R1b seems to be the case for them.

The major discrepancy here that I know of, is the fact that my forefather was in England before 1066, so it's as confusing as the claim that Somerled was born to a Gaelic father with a Norse mother, but both could be merely assumptions and this is bewildering, to overturn well established convention. I knew at least I wouldn't be descended paternally from Niall of the Nine Hostages, who's reckoned to be the major source of R1b among Gaelic folks.

Since North Germanic is isolated per country as all four types of "Viking", while it's not clear about West Germanic, I'm going to roughly and relatively align them as Saxons: Germany, Franks: Netherlands, Longobards: Austria, Alemanni: Liechtenstein. It's true that I'm mostly German (even if largely via Anglo-Saxon) and there's a toss up whether I'm more Dutch or Austrian, with Liechtensteiner obviously a little out of the way from the rest. I assume the reason why Longobards is the group has to do with the fact that it's an historically identifiable Germanic tribe, whereas Bavarians originally were Celts. Ironically, Longobards are now no longer categorised as Germanic, but Bavarians are. Of course, this website must be referring to the same population, just using a nonstandard demonym euphemistically. As for Celts, this must be the Isles, with Gauls from France. East Germanic must be aristocratic lines from the Middle Ages, with Vandals from Spain, Visigoths from Portugal and Ostrogoths from Italy. This website does dive deep into ancestry by using actual grave DNA samples.
