I would think that Atlantis probably existed and that it was once located in the Mediterranean area.

Was it some scientifically advanced utopia? Doubt it, but they probably did possess some kind of advanced culture which they probably spread through the region after escaping some catastrophe.

We can only hope they will find some old Sumerian or Egyptian references that may shed some more light as to its true previous location.

I figure if the Greeks received the tale from the Egyptians then they may have obtained it from yet an older civilization in Sumeria.

Thanks for the interesting post. You should check out Edger Casey, he had sleeping revelations about its local.

You know it's funny, Troy was thought to have been only a myth until Schliemann actually found it.

    "Made-up mythology/Pure Fiction" is a bit insulting.

Atlantis; think Symbolism, analogy... much like most other mythology really. So - though there may be elements in some of the five options outlined in the first post, it's not really any of them at all.

Or it may all be wrong, and Troy could be in Kisko Finland.

If there was an Atlantis, it didn't have jet fighters and televisions.

Probably a sophisticated mercantile city state. Similiar to the Greek city states but a few hundred years earlier.

I feel like perhaps it was indeed a super advanced society of Mediterraneans or perhaps Semitic peoples who died out because of a natural disaster. I think that perhaps the evidence of such was lost maybe even at the fire at the Alexandria library and that only higher caste humans hold the answers to such burning questions.

Atlantis is a load of bollocks Plato made up for his yarn called The Republic and believed in by the fruitcake followers of Edgar Cayce.
'Militia est vita hominis super terram [The life of man upon earth is a warfare] (Job 7:1).'

And was Troy a "load of bollocks" made up by Homer?

Apples and oranges. Plato was a philosopher well-known for his allegorizing whereas Homer was a poet who was collating oral folklore from the Mycenaen times into writing.

Who before Plato mentions Atlantis? Supposedly Solon learned about Atlantis from the Egyptian priests yet in all of the myths that I've read from Egypt I've never seen anything like Atlantis mentioned.
