The archaic from Swanscombe has been interpreted as representing a type which was ancestral to neanderthals. This is because of the occipital of Swanscombe. Swanscombe is dated to around 400,000 years ago here. Herre, it is argued that Swanscombe is one of the oldest hominids that show possible similarities to neanderthals. However it is also stressed that this evolutionary relationship is not certain.
