    The Battle of Brittain

The most boring film I've ever seen.

However, it the germans are portrayed as a bunch of fun guys who just enjoy a good dogfight.

The only people demonised in the film are the british high comand(as war mongers) and stuffy older british officers.

German overtures of peace are a pointed part of the plot early on as and Churchill is alluded to as a drunk who requires 'liquid courage'.

The pro-britishness of the film seems to based on a dogged determination to keep fighting for supremecy despite a very beleaguered situtation. The German's have just beaten hell into them on the continent and out number them in the air four to one.

    1968 I think. Not anti-german one smidgen.

I personally don't find the movie boring at all, and it is, like many British war movies seem to be, a little more impartial than the typical American Hollywood war flick.

    Incidentally, "Britain" has one 't'.

I saw the movie as a kid at a movie theatre just after it was released. "The Battle of Britain" was one of a long list of war movies made in the 1960s, though a bit more realistic than most. In the movie, the young German pilots were portrayed as keen young sportsmen, and a privileged elite, eagerly wanting to get to grips with the enemy, which is probably accurate. Although the old line that was attributed to Adolf Galland talking to Goering about wanting a squadron of Spitfires, and shown in the movie, is apocryphal. Some war movies made in the 1950s and 60s were downright silly, even to me at that tender age either watching them on t.v. on a weekend afternoon or at a cinema. On the other hand, some of the British war movies made in the 1950s, even allowing for an element of propaganda, were quite good and historically accurate.

The Battle of Britain is one of my favorite war films behind Zulu,Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan.

I think the way the film is made is superb and hey, theres a reason why its a classic.

Saving Private Ryan is anti-German propaganda. (But at least the Jewish director was willing to demonstrate that the Americans did commit war crimes.)
