New Zealand bans families from calling their baby ‘Lucifer’ and 'Adolf Hitler'
Births registrar also bans Baron, Duke and Knight
    C, D, I and T also blocked
Harper Seven would have been fine, though

I'd be pretty pissed if they outlawed the name Adolf. I love that name, and I might consider moving to Australia at some point.

EASTON, Pa.— The father of 3-year-old Adolf
Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with
the child's full name on it by one New Jersey
supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance.
Heath Campbell and his wife, Deborah, are
upset not only with the decision made by the
Greenwich ShopRite, but with an outpouring of
angry Internet postings in response to a local
newspaper article over the weekend on their
    flare-up over frosting.

"I think people need to take their heads out of
the cloud they've been in and start focusing on
the future and not on the past," Heath
Campbell said Tuesday in an interview

conducted in Easton, on the other side of the
Delaware River from where the family lives in
    Hunterdon County, N.J.

"There's a new president and he says it's time
for a change; well, then it's time for a change,"
the 35-year-old continued. "They need to
    accept a name. A name's a name. The kid isn't
going to grow up and do what (Hitler) did."

Deborah Campbell, 25, said she phoned in her
order last week to the ShopRite. When she told
the bakery department she wanted her son's
name spelled out, she was told to talk to a
    supervisor, who denied the request.

Karen Meleta, a spokeswoman for ShopRite,
defended the supermarket. She said the
Campbells had similar requests denied at the
same store the last two years and said Heath
Campbell previously had asked for a swastika
to be included in the decoration.

"We reserve the right not to print anything on
the cake that we deem to be inappropriate,"
    Meleta said. "We considered this
    inappropriate."

The Campbells ultimately got their cake
decorated at a Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania,
    Deborah Campbell said.

A Wal-Mart spokesman told The Associated
Press on Wednesday that in light of the
    advertisement

I would have to say that, even as a great admirer of Adolf Hitler, it's downright irresponsible to give your child this name

Now, 'Lucifer' I quite like the sound of! I suppose you also have the get-out (if things go wrong and they won't take your kid at the local Christian-run school ) of abbreviating it to Luke for the boys or Lucy for the girls.

They can't let the commoners put titles of nobility in their names!

Although, people are commonly named Duke.

It's not a bad idea to draw a line somewhere, seeing the other examples of banned names.

Baron, Bishop, Duke, General, Judge, King, Knight and Mr

I mean, c'mon, Mr (abbreviation) is NOT a name.

    But there is more:

    Violence
Number 16 Bus Shelter (serious? was it made there?)

    . (full-stop) or * (asterisk) or simply a letter (C, D, I and T) is also a no-no.

According to reports, q and J were given the green light after the mothers and fathers appealed.

‘It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap,’ Family Court Judge Rob Murfitt said in 2008 after granting nine-year-old Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii permission to assume a more straightforward title.

... one has to wonder what the parents were thinking - or whether they were thinking at all

Britain could need such a crackdown too:

Barb Dwyer, Ray Gunn, Mary Christmas, Max Power, Justin Case and Chris Cross

    And Sweden:

Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11 116’ didn’t get through, but Google and Lego did

One has to wonder whether these names actually constitute a legal reason to give the child into fostercare or adoption because of child abuse....

In a similar vein, these celebrities who name their children weird things aren't setting a very good example. I guess if you are surrounded by hippies, "Moon Unit" is not too bad, but "Dweezil" is just downright embarrassing wherever he grows up.

And American Negroes will make up any crap that sounds good to them and name their kid that. Shaquonda, Laqueesha, etc. all seem par for the course. Naming one's child in such a meaningless way is typically lowbrow and perpetuates an overall illiterate society.
