I know this is different to the point being made in the article, but one reason why WW2 is considered a "good war" by so many not on the Axis side is because the battle lines were clear, there was no Taliban or Viet Cong hiding amongst Villagers, no IEDS, no Political Correctness that stopped massive bombing campaigns. It was a classic European style war, with European rules.

World War 2 was world wide and only lasted 6 years and involved the Superpowers of its day. Afghanistan has been dragging on for 10 involves a superpower against peasants basically and no end is in site.

I don't even consider Afghanistan to be a war, rather an operation. There is no chance of a crushing loss of both sides, to both be potentially destroyed. In my opinion we could kick all the Muslims out and shut the door to that part of the world; problem solved. There is no chance of NATO being overrun and destroyed except by going bankrupt on an extended operation that has no end. At most, level select areas back to the stoneage and then leave! There's no need for NATO forces to be there other than to keep the opposing side violence down to an acceptable level while the door to the West is left wide open via multiculturalism/'refugees.'

Now,we have UN.EU.Nato dictating to all countries how to run,trying to stop natural thing that men do,wars! Europe had so many wars before wwII,AND Europe suvived the way she has for centuries (until just recentnally! not cause by wars either)
Wars are healthy in a way and by halting wars in Europe for centuries, it's going to be one huge explosion; and I be gald that I would not be here to witness it.

I should also point out that WW2 was the last time any of the nations of the Allied side won a war so I think that is also why you hear people say WW2 was a good war.

In reality it weakened Europe and brought in millions of immigrants and also caused just as many people to leave Europe to go to America, Australia etc. A stupid thing to allow really, on the one hand bring people in because you need labour on the other allow people to leave????

Where is the logic in that.

Perhaps 'reasonable' is a more fitting term and yes, I believe that WWII was the last war in which the impetus of those involved were geared toward their own interests rather than attempting to please Israel desperately, albeit the US was for Israel.
