    Happy Midsummer!

Alright people, only a few days left to midsommar now. I hope all of you will have a wonderful day and weekend, I know I will. Our celebration will look something like this (if not exactly like this..), very Swedish.

Most Swedes celebrate midsummer like that, but there are also those who celebrate this version, or something very close to it at least

How will you celebrate midsummer this year, if you celebrate at all? Do tell!

I'll celebrate midsummer same style as last year, at a viking market we are arranging in my town. We had many Swedish visitors last year and we raised a midsummer pole. We'll have a feast with grilled pig, ox, lamb, chicken and fish

Hope you all have a good solstice

We are going to celebrate it with some comrades like we usually do, this time a little more extensively. We're going to have sportive events and community games as well, including hammer throw, stone throw, a relay race, armwrestling, archery, the obligatory quiz, the obligatory card game, etc. pp. - we decided to forego the martial arts portion and postpone that to next year or so. We will be fairly far away from civilisation/a hospital.

In the evening we're going to have a ritual which I tend to call 'Baldur's Blót' which will include several portions of rememberance and seasonal wishes. We will erect, as is traditional, a Bergfeuer in the mountains and will burn things thereupon. Also traditional here is the burning of Strohhansln, but also not this year as it is not so much a tradition in the place we are holding it. After that, sanguine food and drink as is prescribed for those who aren't abstinent (which a portion is). Local cold foods as well as some grilled stuff is commonplace here, we will keep in line with this.

I will also be holding some portion thereof as a remembrance to my grandfather who passed last week, I will post more about this elsewhere after he is cremated tomorrow. I'd also love to speak about it in more detail, but understand that I will have to use some discretion.
-In kalte Schatten versunken...

In Bavaria we have the tradition of celebrating a "Sonnwendfeier" on 20th June, it´s more or less a village fest with beer, more beer, good meals like suckling pig, music and a big bonfire at night!

The difference to the Scandinavian countries is that we don´t celebrate Midsummer ("Sommersonnenwende" in German) over a couple of days but only on one day. There´s one large fest at the late afternoon until midnight (bordering 21th June), and that´s it.

    A few examples:

    Happy midsummer.

Wishing a (late) happy midsummer to everyone. Me and some friends had a wonderful fire and feast on the lake.

Such a great time of year.

We celebrated a Swedish midsummer in Agoura Hills, California today. It was so nice, so many cute, white oldies and babies. Good food, dancing, super nice people and 103°F (40°C) warm.
