I do 'em. I have a friend who comes over and then we collect wood invite a few friends and sit and stare into the fire, drink some beer, have a Bratwurst and so on.

In Cal one has to watch the fire season but right now it is still pretty wet (very unusual)

In Germany there is alwars a big easte fire. made by the whole villare about 6- 10 yards high. It gets pretty hot.

My family used to have bonfires up north in the country side where no one could see us except for a few neighbors. We would pick up organic debris (sticks, leaves, wood) to use in it. A hose was always nearby in case of emergencies. We would then roast marshmallows on the sticks. This happened when I was a young kid.

    Good times...

Yes, I enjoy it very much. I make them each summer, even though I know it isn't exactly legal where I live. I usually keep them small, about 3 ft. in diameter.

As longbeardblood mentioned in another thread, the summer solsitce is comming up, all the more reason to make one!

Of course in Britain the big time of year for bonfires is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night For the young (and young at heart) it's a magical time and part of our ritual year and national identitiy.

I love bonfires, or really any outdoor fire, even if it's quite small. It makes me feel cozy, particularly in summer and autumn months. It's lovely to sit outdoors and savor the scent of the wood burning, and the warmth is an added bonus in cooler fall weather.

It can also be fun to roast sausages or marshmallows this way. Beer or wine is a lovely welcome addition to the festivities.

Always puts me in a good mood.

Here in Britain we have a thing called Bonfire Night, which is a tradition we have every year of making bonfires and setting off fireworks. It's all to do with the story of Guy Fawkes and his plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament with gunpowder and kill King James I. It's a very popular tradition and I can't think of anyone who doesn't celebrate it.

P.S. Sorry Berrocscir, I didn't see your post before I posted this.

I enjoy building Bonfires at the lake on a spring or summer night and fishing for
catfish.I also like to roast hot dogs and marshmallows on a branch that I cut from a willow tree.

There is something about fires that is enchanting to me.I guess it is something ingrained in my genes or in my soul.I love them!
