I see. Phalian should be very low skulled, at least the earhole height is described as low (even 122 mm or less!). If he is indeed high-skulled maybe he is closer to Reihengräber-typus. It might be an impression because he is bald. It is difficult to see how low or high a vault is, and even more so to determine the height-length index merely by looking at someone.

Perhaps there is a Corded component and in that case he fit in Coon's Anglo-Saxon description.

Volks--I agree with you for the most part here. One abarrent feature I see though is that his mandible is not particularly deep. I don't think that it is shallow, so to say but it is not the deep & rugged mandible one would expect from a A-S/Reihengraber type.

Faelid should be 122mm or less for auricular head height? Very interesting indeed. My AHH is somewhere in the high 130s which might rule me out of the Faelid class....

Phalian is described as low skulled. Friterpian samples were for example lower skulled than Groterpians. The Groterpians had also broader faces and shorter heads. Thei predominant type among them were called Reihengräber-typus. You could give me your anthropometrical data and I could compare when I find the time.

I should say not Phalian per se, but where the type predominate got a low auricular head height. The average for German-speaking areas is 122 mm, or at least much less than the more (in Scandinavia, of course) Nordid regions (G Backman, 1935). It is around 126 to 127 mm in Iceland and Norway. As it is an average over populations and I do not know the range I doubt that one could rule out Phalian when it comes to you. As you know facially these types are very similar and I doubt that one can tell them apart unless being some extraordinary expert. It is also difficult without having anthropometrical information.

Now I'm confused. In the Til Schweiger classification thread I was informed that Faelids are high-skulled, previously I was SURE they were low-skulled. Now I don't know what to think.

This man looks like a Faelid in everything except the weirdness on the top of his head.
Maybe he's a Faelid/Corded, that seems most likely to me. Look at his Cro-Magnoid chin and jaw, and the shape of the eyes, it must be faelid.

Perhaps it's merely a false impression. Is there any information about skull height standards on this site? Thank you.
