As if a child can be judged to have something like that. Having this little hint of what psychiatry is like, I can see how difficult it is for people diagnosed with severe problems and my heart just goes out to them so much.
Absolutely. According to Selling Sickness, children and people in general are overdiagnosed with 'diseases' such as ADHD and depression that are really loosely defined, usually defined by a panel of physicians with significant conflicts of interest that have money to make in the corporate selling of drugs. The definitions are generally expanded to include more and more people every time they have a meeting.

Basically, there is only a very very small percent of people that should be taking anti-depressants, and the rest that are taking it shouldn't be taking it at all and are being exposed to more potential harm than good to their health all in the name of free capitalism.

Anti-depressants can cause a lot of harm in children and teens and should almost never be prescribed to them. Anti-depressants have been noted to cause depression in children and teens, the very thing they are suppose to counteract, as well as increase the occurrence of suicidal thoughts in children and teens.

Did you know that the FDA, since 1990, now gets more than 50% of its funding from private drug companies? There was a big scandal with the FDA with a potentially deadly drug marketed for Irritable Bowel Syndrome that was pulled from the market, then reapproved, despite its deadly risk factor. Just one example.

I am sorry to read you were another victim of the healthcare free capitalism marriage, as was I and my mother.

Oh I think its absolutely horrible (just another symptom of our sick collectivist society), the only people I can think of that might need to take a safe amount of antidepressent would be a mother with post partum depression, or anything else that has a provable by science physical cause. But I'm still not even convinced that antidepressants are treatment, even if there is a physical cause.

When I was on sh*tloft my A/B average dropped to C's, I lost almost all motivation to get into a private university and follow my dreams, felt lethargic, gained 15 Ibs (which came right off when I didn't take it any more), became forgetful and dazed, felt like I was a prisoner in my own head, and lost nearly all my sexual drive and pleasure. They told me I was "too excitable" and had to take this to balance me out. IMO that would be the most self-deprecating thing to accept that my spirit to fight back and passion for life is a defective thing. There's a reason why all "mania patients" deny that they have mania lol. There really is no such thing as a biological mental illness, just evil people who pick out someone who is psychologically abused and/or confused/hurt and abuse them further.

I think the majority of humans have some kind of "brain disorder", as psychiatry puts it. Only a tiny minority are completely "normal", without any mental quirks at all. There's nothing wrong with psychiatry per se; it's just a way of categorizing the human personalities.

But feeding someone psychopharmaca is a form of abuse. It's fucking cruel. I was misdiagnosed with ADD as a kid, and my parents forced me to take downer pills. It was a total disaster, I became moody and depressed for months on end. It ended with me fighting my dad and trying to kill him. Today, I don't hate my parents anymore but I don't talk to them either.

Psychopharmaca for kids is the modern incarnation of brain lobotomy and electroshock torture.

My friend, there is NOT such a thing as a brain disorder. I think you may be confusing psychiatry with psychology. It may seem like there are biological disorders, because psychiatrists try to cover their tracks and emotionally blackmail people into fearing their evils so much that they enbrace their unproven theories without actually rationalizing if it is even scientific. If you take a close look at all famous people who had nervous breakdowns or were labeled as crazy in the old days, you will notice that there is always a non-biological cause for their behavior. Opression.

Just to clarify it for you, think about the brain itself. It has no pain receptors and they have no way of proving that people diagnosed with so called schizophrenia, ADHD, and bipolar have any kind of physiological defect. It's basically just a bunch of irrelevant nonsense. Of course, people can have brain damage and mental retardation but that's a lot different from what I'm talking about.

Nope, there are lots of brain disorders. Maybe "disorders" is the wrong word here, since so many people have them - and they can range from common personality quirks, to more serious things. For example, psychopaths don't actually have any mental illness, but they have a serious biological disorder.

But yeah, I agree that most psychiatrists are state-sponsored quacks who make money by scaring people.

Those are only unproven theories, not science. There is really very little or no proof whatsoever that there is even such a thing such as a biological disorder affecting the mind, just common behavior that they make into a disorder.

Chicagoland, indeed, although Spickagoland would be more appropriate name today.

Back to my story, if anybody's interested. During this time (6th grade) I was also told I needed surgery to have my tonsils removed. On top of that I was on antibiotics almost every month for constant tonsillitis, as well as sinusitis. How could a kid not get depressed??? Instead of addressing the underlying problems, the psychiatrists just cause more problems by throwing labels and chemicals at kids. On top of that, it stigmatizes them for the rest of their lives.

Antidepressants are not proven to work, they tell us they are believed to work. Actually, they are just "placebo" with deadly side effects.

Yeah, brain disorders are physiological, not imagined chemical imbalance fairy tales. Dementia, dementia pugilistica, multiple sclerosis, amyotopic lateral sclerosis, brain tumors, idiopathic intracranial hypertension etc, etc... are just a few examples or REAL brain disorders.

Lol I produce so much adrenaline/mood lifting hormones that it would be impossible not to get that back lol I'm glad I have a high libido. I think this is why they wanted to put me on medication, they wanted to make me lose my ambition and argumentativeness, they thought there was something wrong with me because I was so excitable and feisty lol. They wanted to see if there was something wrong with me if they took that mood away. Plus my mom told me that I was actually only on it for 5-6 months and that I was actually spitting most of it out and she ignored it (this is actually really funny because the therapist made me admit that the medicine was working). It must have made me forget everything because I don't remember anything like that! They were actually required to try medicating me with something by social services because the therapist contacted them even though they could never actually diagnose me with anything. I originally wasn't supposed to take anything, but my therapist was trying to cover the schools bum for not doing anything about the long term bullying, so she must have felt like she had to try to make it look like there was actually something wrong with me.

I actually think people have somewhat voluntary control over their hormone/chemical balance. I feel that I can actually make myself in an agitated/excited state naturally by releasing adrenaline or make myself emotional/bitchy (I don't know how I do this though) when I want to be. I'm guessing people with clinical depression are taught to put themselves in darkened states permanently and become self deprecating due to the psychological confusion from being told its a problem they can't control.

My guess is that moods are actually somewhat or completely controlled by the subconscious/unconscious. I felt powerful and agitated during that time and I remember one instance where I talked about my current fascination with volcanoes in therapy without realizing what it meant. Lol volcanoes erupt, it must have been an intuitive riddle.

I have been on a psychiaric anti-depressant medication for 14 months, steadily increasing the dose, and although the drug hasn't helped improve my psychological condition all that much I have not had any bad experiences from it or see how it "killed my mind" or made me in a worse condition. Nor did I gain any weight, "became forgetful and dazed" or any other negative psychological effects. I really don't see how this is harmful.

I don't like the some of the things being said in this thread. Someone should not be forced to feel like they are a jew and evil for taking psychiatric drugs to recover from something.

I don't see how that makes me a jew and anti Germanic not to discontinue taking it and switch to St. Johns wort.

However, while there is nothing evil about antidepressants the way they're being demonized in this thread, I still think herbal medicine is a far better approach. I have considered talking to my psychiatrist about including herbs such as St. Johns wort in my recovery plan.

Some people really are too excitable. Its not always a good thing. There's nothing wrong with being relaxed and easy going.

Wallflower, nobody said anything about jews. I'm not going to comment on your choice to tranquilize yourself because its not my business, but I think head drugs are wrong for young people and I do have rational reasons for thinking that.

I was not too excitable, just had a lot of adrenaline from being bullied and threatened constantly. The subconscious mind releases it, its a natural fight or flight instinct. I tend to react with anger instead of meakness, its just my personality, I hate corruption and am just naturally feisty and have normal self esteem. I actually come across as extremely calm/docile 99% of the time but that doesn't mean I don't feel excited or powerful.
