    Germanic Identity & Tribe Names

The ancient germanic peoples were documented and named by foreign travelers and these accounts are often cited by would be historians and forum members to track germanic tribes through history. In this thread I would like to display runic carvings etc that were written by germanic people themselves, naming themselves, their tribe or where they came from.

I feel this is important because it shows that we have long had sense of identity and held allegiances.

    For example:
"Eight Goths and 22 Norwegians on a journey of exploration from Vinland very far west. We had camp by 2 rocky islands one day's journey north from this stone. We were out fishing one day. After we came home we found 10 men red with blood and dead. AVM [Ave Maria] save us from evil."

    Another example:

Side A: "Žorgeršr(?) raised this stone in memory of Ōzurr, her mother's brother. He met his end in the east in Greece."
Side B: "The good man Gulli got five sons. The brave valiant man Įsmundr fell at Fœri; Ōzurr met his end in the east in Greece; Halfdan was killed at Holmr (Bornholm?); Kįri was (killed) at Oddr(?);"
Side C: "also dead (is) Bśi. Žorkell carved the runes."[130]
