Ski Alpine World Championships Declared Open in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Today is an important day for all Skiing fans worldwide: The World Championships of Alpine Skiing just opened in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the first Ski Championship on German and Bavarian soil after 33 years, at the very same village where the Winter Olympics of 1936 took place!

From 7th till 20th February, 525 athletes from 69 nations fight for gold, silver and bronze in 11 disciplines.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Skiing center of Germany, offers one of the most demanding and thrilling ski slopes of the world, with a declivity of nearly 95% at some parts of the slope (like the "Freier Fall" passage).

It´s the first time after 17 years that the women of Alpine Skiing have races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In 1994, the then Austrian World Cup-leader Ulrike Meyer had an deadly accident on the downhill slope and since then no womens race took place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen again up until now.

The medal favourites are the US American ski-star Lindsey Vonn, the German ski-stars Maria Riesch and Viktoria Rebensburg, the US-American Bode Miller, the Swiss Didier Cuche and the Austrian Michael Walchhofer.

    Get the party started!

The first race, the Women´s Super G, is over and the first podest looks like that:

    Gold: Elisabeth Görgl - Austria

    Silver: Julia Mancuso - USA

    Bronze: Maria Riesch - Germany

Here´s the victory run of Elisabeth Görgl on the very difficult and icy slope of Garmisch Partenkirchen:

The podium of the 2nd race, the Men´s Super G:

Gold: Christof Innerhofer - South Tyrol (As South Tyrol is, regrettably, a part of Italy since the end of the First World War, the medal counts as an "Italian gold medal" officially, but we all know that´s laughable)

    Silver: Hannes Reichelt - Austria

    Bronze: Ivica Kostelic - Croatia

Here´s the victory run of Christof Innerhofer

    Christof Innerhofer - Gold Run

(Two races by now, two times gold for members of German tribes! )

Regarding Südtirol (South Tyrol) .. It is absolutely disgusting Italy claims any medals from any south Tirolean Sportsman or Sportswoman..

The 1919 Treaty of Versailles was not only spitefully unjust but also criminal and actually illegal under International law.

Refer this to International lawyer and American historian Alfred de Zayas and he can confirm it officially although Rome in all its hypocrisy will ignore it. Alfred is resident in the Swiss city of Geneva and is a tireless worker to bring justice and a voice to the absolute millions of innocent German civilians massacred towards the end and at the end and in the aftermath of WW2 all over German speaking Europa..
(sorry for going a little off topic but I feel for Südtirol each and every day and it really irks me the Italians take any kind of glory from a region that is NOT Italian)..

Dear Thussy, I don't think my absence did you well. I'm deeply offended about this. What about Schladming 1982, Saalbach-Hinterglemm 1991, St. Anton am Arlberg 2001? That is German and Bavarian soil as well, where does all that Sectarianism suddenly come from?

Happiest thus far about Fenninger's Gold, currently my favourite female skier. Pretty, Bavarian, brave (FFS, Motocross is her hobby ) and fast.
-In kalte Schatten versunken...

(Heimdalls Wacht, In kalte Schatten versunken, stanzas 4-6)
