The Dumbest Thing You Have Heard Someone Say

I thought this might be a good venting thread for a lot of people and possibly a bit humorous.
    ........................................ .................
Many years ago, I had a roommate, she had a 9th grade education and worked as a waitress, she had a great heart but was not the brightest in the world.

One day she mentioned she wanted to watch the hunchback of "Notre Dame" because it was going to be on that afternoon, she was kind of asking permission because it was my house and she knew I wouldn't be into watching it.

I said sure and went out and did yard work while she was watching it, when I came in it was about over.

She proceeds to say what a great movie, and then said........ "but I have never understood what this movie has to do with the football team"

I was so dumbfounded I couldn't reply.... lol

When I moved to New York for the first time I stayed for one night at a youth hostel before finding an apartment. This was immediately after the Waco disaster. When I showed the girl behind the desk my identification she gave me the strangest look, one that I still interpret as fear.
She asked me to "wait here a minute". I could have told her that I had no plans on leaving anytime soon, but chose to remain silent.
She walks into a back room and I could hear her whisper to someone. A few seconds later a man came out (the manager). He gave my I.D. back and escorted me to my room. Later on I asked him why the girl had acted so strangely. It turns out she felt that because I was from Waco that I must be a Branch Davidian who had escaped and was now on the run! She thought of that entire wacky scenario within a single minute. Apparently she was unaware that "Waco" was not actually a religious compound but an actual city with a population of 116,000.
The manager and I had a pretty good laugh. People from Waco visit New York City all of the time. I figured that she was probably just another strange person that one is apt to come across in youth hostels. So she didn't actually say this stupid thing to me but someone else. Still, it was the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

I've heard/read at least three Americans say "Americans don't have accents" and seriously mean it.

At school there was a guy, probably about 16 at the time, who said something like, "Just because someone's black doesn't mean their ancestors are from Africa," and when faced with the inevitable "WTF?" responses, it turned out he didn't know non-whites in England were descended from recent immigrants -- and this was a 16 year old!

I've seen online and heard in real life a lot of funny grammar Nazi fails -- i.e. some pretentious idiot 'correcting' already perfectly correct grammar, and offering an incorrect alternative. There are too many examples of this to list.

One guy on this forum once said people in England who look Italian and have Italian surnames are descended from the Romans, as opposed to recent immigrants.

My dad thinks Batman and Robin is the best Batman movie ever made, even though he's seen the original Batman, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

I'm sure many, many more stupid things will come to me later.

We used to have a French teacher who thought he spoke perfect English and we used to wind him up all the time without him knowing it.
A friend of mine said to him once..."Ah you know sir its a long worm that has no turning".....and he looked a bit puzzled yet replied.."yes eet eez i suppoze.....how veree true"

Another time this same friend of mine who had the ability to keep a straight face says...."Ah theres many a mickle makes a muckle mackle sir......do you know what i mean".....and he replies..."ah certanlee do....ah certenlee do"

I cant remember the rest of them but theres loads more.

There's usually very few dumb things someone could say without me having a good comeback; and I suppose there's been a few dumb things I've said myself where I made myself the laughing stock of all in the vicinity (typically during mornings).

There were two isolated incidents however, when I was completely bereft of speech:

    1) I was talking to this Irishman. At some point he asked me: "Are you Catholic or Protestant", to which I replied. "Neither. I'm a Heathen". His counter-question? --- "Catholic Heathen or Protestant Heathen?"

    2) There was this girl I used to date a fair while back. We were watching a movie together, until I became a little peckish, so I asked her: "Do you reckon we might order a Pizza on-line?" - Her reply: "Umm, I'm not sure - what's the toppings on this 'Pizza Online'?". I lol'd, badly. :
-In kalte Schatten versunken...

(Heimdalls Wacht, In kalte Schatten versunken, stanzas 4-6)

The Dumbest Thing You Have Heard Someone Say

This reminds me of an incident once when I was working in television production in Los Angeles.
I was on a show and a crew member and they had some Negro cRap singer as a guest.
He did his song and everybody went crazy. After it was over we took a break and I happened to notice a bunch of white guys sitting together decked out in complete "Wigger" attire - baggy, saggy pants, caps on crooked, lots of "bling", etc. They really looked stupid.
I asked them what they thought of the show, and one of the Wiggers looked at me and said excitedly (and I quote):
"Man, it was great! I sure wish I was Black!"
I have heard ALOT of dumb things from really dumb people, but I don't believe I will EVER hear a dumber remark than this if I live to be 100.
