Anytime somethings really bothering me, I set aside some time to just chill and smoke some herb.
Is this the Latin forum or the Germanic forum???

We used to have a reputation for being very disciplined, organized, and hard working. What has happened to us? If we aren't going to be any different than the immigrants, why do we care how many of them ther are in our countries?

Simply stated, no. I am far too German to be this way - I have always had alot of self-discipline and determination (perhaps too much).

My biggest problem is that most people are not like me in this way - I get angry and frustrated when people tell me they are going to do something and then don't follow through.

Whenever I tell someone I am going to do something (or simply decide to do something on my own), I simply do it.

In the words of Larry the Cable Guy - "Get 'er done."
TexRog, we have a lot in common. Texans are awsome. I often feel like I am the only one left that shares the values of our ancestors. It's good to know there's somebody else out there.

It really irritates me how we have become so lazy and lackadaisical. My parents and grandparents believed that it was a sin to spend time idly. They never went to movies or watched sports, though they socialized a lot. And I have grown up to be the same way now. I wake up at 6:00 every morning, whether my alarm clock goes off or not. When I come home from work, I help with the children while my wife cooks, I work around the house, I read the news paper, or I work in the garden. Maybe I'm extreme. But taking life seriously used to be normal for us.

The reason that so many people are so lazy and slovenly these days is simple: the American/Western lifestyle. It is a lifestyle that encourages and caters to careless and idle behaviour. It may even be said that it is encouraged by the media and modern society in general. Being known as "chill" is a complement, and many people strive to
be known as "that chill cool guy".

I'll readily admit that I've fallen victim to this type of slothful western lifestyle. I don't try to deny it or anything.
So far, I've done nothing this entire summer but sit at home watching TV/playing xbox, hang out at a friend's place and watch TV/play xbox, or smoke pot and listen to music, or hang out at a friend's place and smoke
    pot and listen to music.

I've gone on a few wakeboarding trips, but other than that, I've done nothing
but the above. And don't mistake me for being proud of it either. I generally tend to look at myself as being a lazy asshole and a loser.

But the thing is, I think that classic German hard-working and persistent spirit
is still in my blood, it's just deeply obscured by the degenerate lifestyle I subscribe to.

When I really get it in my head to do something, I will not stop until it gets done, period.

About two years ago, my uncle offered me 100 dollars if I could memorize and
recite Luke Chapter 2. That's right, the entire chapter in the Bible.
But that's not even where it gets good. The part that I'm really proud of, is that I managed to memorize and recite it to him on the same day he told me that he'd give me a hundred bucks.

I sat there memorizing that chapter, sentence by sentence, for ten hours
    straight.
Or maybe more. Honestly, ten hours is probably my lowest
estimate. I didn't get up to eat, talk to anyone, or anything else. I just sat there and stared at that chapter for ten hours, memorizing it word for word. And when I messed up a single word while reciting it to him, I had to start all over.
If that's not determination, I really don't know what is.

And yes, I am aware that I am sounding incredibly boastful, but I have
reason to be. I mean, seriously, look at this:

    http://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Luke-Chapter-2/

    Every word of it.

Oh yeah, could the moderators please not delete my post because of an insignificant little drug reference. It took me a long time to write this you
    know.

I am both a hard worker and a procrastinater. When it comes to my job, school etc. I don't usually have too many problems. But when I'm given a free day to do what I please and, for example, I plan to write music/lyrics for my band, advertising, or any personal endeavors, I sometimes have big problems getting started.

Can anyone shed any wisdom on how to overcome this frustrating habit?? If not, I will continue to blame my ADHD!

Used to do it a lot while being a teenager. Not doing it nowadays. It's a horrible habit, I must recognize, but you know, when you get older and mature you realize the difference between urgent things and superficial stuff...just the same about relationships. So you're able to choose..
