Forget Two World Wars and One World Cup... Geneticists Reveal 50 Per Cent of Britons Are GERMAN

Forget two world wars and one world cup... geneticists reveal 50 per cent of Britons are GERMANShared gene stems from Germanic tribesmen who came ashore on the Kent coast in 449AD
Up to 200,000 believed to have crossed the North Sea to Britain, pillaging and raping after Romans left

Top geneticists say two world wars and one world cup were all for nothing because Britons are 'essentially' Germans who live on an island.

Together with archaeologists who have spent years on dig sites in the UK, the experts conclude that 50 per cent of us have German blood flowing through our veins.
It stems from the Germanic tribesmen, Hengist and Horsa, who came ashore on the Kent coast in 449AD.

When their friends and family began arriving in some numbers, the gene pool began to take on a distinctly Teutonic hue.

Archaeological 'minimalists' believe in something called an 'elite transfer', in which a small caste of Germanic noble warriors placed themselves at the top of society in a coup, displacing the Celtic tongue of old with their own.

Now new research makes the case that the old enemy is, in large part, us.
'There is no use in denying it,' wrote the top German news magazine Der Spiegel this week.

'It is now clear that the nation which most dislikes the Germans were once Krauts themselves. A number of studies reinforce the intimacy of the German-English relationship.

'Biologists at University College in London studied a segment of the Y chromosome that appears in almost all Danish and northern German men -- and is also surprisingly common in Great Britain.

'This suggests that a veritable flood of people must have once crossed the North Sea.'
Similar studies conducted in Anglo-Saxon cemeteries produced similar results.

When chemists analysed the tooth enamel and bones of skeletons, they found 20 per cent had originated on mainland Europe.
German archeologist Heinrich Haerke of the University of believes 'up to 200,000 emigrants' crossed the North Sea, pillaging and raping after the Roman soldiers had left.
These unorthodox, axe-wielding arrivals filled their cemeteries with the the kinds of pottery and jewellery found in similar gravesites along the Elbe River.

The Germanic farmers of Spong Hill in Norfolk remained in contact with their families abroad for two to three generations.

Spiegel went on: 'The Celts were no match for these roughnecks. The Romans had taught them how to play the lyre and drink copious amounts of wine, but the populace in the regions controlled by the Pax Romana was barred from carrying weapons.

'As a result, the local peoples, no longer accustomed to the sword, lost one battle after the next and were forced to the edges of the island.'

Academics believe that the King Arthur legends were spawned in these wild times as a form of propaganda about an England that really never existed at all.

Geneticist Mark Thomas told Spiegel the Germanic conquerors maintained 'social structures similar to apartheid' which curbed the locals' birthrate.

'People from rural England are more closely related to the northern Germans than to their countrymen from Wales or Scotland,' said professor Haerke.

According to him, every other man on our island carries the 'Friesian gene.'

Thumbs Up Britain is More Germanic Than It Thinks

With recent archaeological and genetic discoveries, many English are discovering their Germanic roots. Whether or not they embrace it is another issue...

    Our favorite subject.

Forget two world wars and one World Cup... geneticists reveal 50 per cent of Britons are GERMAN

It may come as a shock to those fond of quoting a world cup triumph and the outcome of two wars as signs of British superiority. Scientists say that around half of Britons have German blood coursing through their veins. Anybody who paid attention in their history lessons knows that tribes from northern Europe invaded Britain after the Romans left in around 410AD.

But research by leading geneticists reveals the extent to which the Germans became part of the nation's racial mix. Together with archaeologists who have spent years on sites in the UK, they conclude that 50 per cent of us have some German blood. Biologists at University College in London studied a segment of the Y chromosome that appears in almost all Danish and northern German men – and found it surprisingly common in Great Britain. Analysis of tooth enamel and bones found in Anglo-Saxon cemeteries supported these results.

German archeologist Heinrich Haerke believes 'up to 200,000 emigrants' crossed the North Sea, pillaging and raping and eventually settling. The native Celts, softened by years of peace under the Romans, were no match for the raiding parties from across the North Sea. Pottery and jewellery similar to that found in grave sites along the Elbe River in northern Germany has been unearthed in Anglo-Saxon cemeteries here. There is also evidence the settlers remained in contact with relatives on the Continent for up to three generations.

The findings have caused a certain amount of gloating in Germany. 'There is no use in denying it,' wrote news magazine Der Spiegel. 'It is clear that the nation which most dislikes the Germans were once Krauts themselves. A number of studies reinforce the intimacy of the German-English relationship.'

Anglo-Saxon is a catch-all phrase to refer to the invaders of the fifth and sixth centuries AD. Angles came from the southern part of the Danish peninsula and gave their name to England and the Saxons came from the north German plain. There were other tribes – such as the Jutes, from Jutland, who settled in Kent. The Anglo-Saxons drove the Britons into Cornwall, Wales and the North, but a few centuries later faced waves of invaders themselves – Vikings from Scandinavia and then the Normans in 1066.

My 86 year old Grandfather (who was born South East of Leeds, West Yorkshire) showed me this article yesterday and remarked that it was no surprise to him that so many Englishmen have Anglo-Saxon blood. He told me that when he was growing up in the 1930s all of the farmers who owned the land surrounding his village counted their sheep in Danish. Although everybody spoke English, the primary school he attended taught children to count in Danish, as opposed to English.

Strangely, my Mother told me that her father, my other Grandfather (who was born in South Lincolnshire in the early 1930s) was taught the local Lincolnshire dialect at school until just before 1939, when it was replaced with Standard English because the local dialect had elements of the German language, such as 'kenn' instead of 'know', 'nicht' instead of 'not', and 'jahr' instead of 'year'.

The media seem to be a little bit behind the times. Y and X chromosome studies have been around for over a decade...

Very interesting article. This is obvious when you compare faces, the Germans look very similar to the English (slightly different, but very similar).

But research by leading geneticists reveals the extent to which the Germans became part of the nation's racial mix.
I think they meant "ethnic mix"

When I was a young child in primary school in the mid-60s, when Australian children were taught the basic origins of their race, we were taught that the English were descended from the Germanic tribes, the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes, from the coastal regions of northern Germany and western Denmark, and then the Danish incursions and settlements through the ninth, tenth, and eleventh centuries added to the Germanic mix. I always thought it was taken as a given fact that the English were a Germanic or Teutonic people. They spoke a Germanic language and settled vast tracts of Britain into what would become Germanic Britain that became known as England, after the Angles who gave their name to Angeland which evolved into England and the name English for the collective noun of all the Germanic peoples of England. This may be a very conventional view, but I cannot see any reason why it would be questioned.

Um...I mention this on another thread that the British and Germans are closely related but no one listen to me!
And some male British members (won't name any names) disagreed with me,don't know why!

They have. It's impossible for media reports on population genetics not to be annoying. They either crassly misrepresent, simplify or outright falsify genetic findings, or they rehash the same few subjects every couple of years and pretend that it's something new (although I doubt empty-headed Dail Mail readers would remember anyway). Stating that English people are part German is probably a sensational, earth-shattering revelation to the type of smacktard that reads tabloids.
