All this talk of creating regional blocs and super states remind me too much of Orwell's Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia nightmare. Frankly I'd like to see more succession movements and regional autonomy.:othala:

If this plan is carried out it will lead to open borders between Mexico and the United States with all the millions of third-world Mexicans pouring into the US.

They're already pouring in - this just makes it legal & they won't sneak across the desert with the aid of a coyote. For Mexicans, crossing the Rio Grande into Texas will be as simple as it is for me to cross the Ohio into Kentucky.

    North American Union

I recently read a "Three-Birds-With-One-Stone" solution to some of America's problems. First, dig a moat across the continent along the US/Mexican border. Second, use the soil from the moat to build up the dikes in Louisiana. Third, put the Florida alligators into the moat. VOILA ! Three problems solved at once.

    North American Union

This thread is to follow the coming N.A.U. even if the traditional nation names are kept the same to avoid revolution. Here are some recent events:

US and Mexico reach proposed deal over trucking dispute

The US and Mexico have reached a proposed deal to open US highways to Mexican trucks, raising hopes of an end to a 20-year dispute.

US President Barack Obama said the nations had "found a clear path to resolving" the roadblock in relations.

In a news conference with Mexico's Felipe Calderon, Mr Obama pledged to speed aid to Mexico's anti-drug effort.

The Mexican president's two-day visit to Washington comes amid increasing tensions between the two nations.

The announcement of the trucking deal comes roughly two weeks after the killing of a US agent in Mexico and leaked US criticism of Mexico's war on drugs, both of which have soured a relationship between the nations that had appeared to be improving in recent years.
    Retaliation

US and Mexican carriers were authorised to cross the border under the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, but the US has refused to allow Mexican trucks access over concerns of their ability to meet US safety and environmental standards.

"Mexico has a full partner with the United States. Our people have a right to be safe in their communities”

    -US President Barack Obama

American truckers have opposed opening US roads to Mexican truckers, arguing the move would cost US lorry drivers' jobs.

Mr Calderon's government last year retaliated with tariffs on a number of US goods after US lawmakers cancelled funding for a pilot programme that allowed long-haul Mexican trucks to circulate in the US.

Teams are still working out the details of the agreement and are expected to send the plan to Congress this spring, an Obama administration official told the Associated Press news agency.

"I look forward to consulting with Congress and moving forward in a way that strengthens the safety of cross-border trucking, lifts tariffs on billions of dollars of US goods, expands our exports to Mexico, and creates jobs on both sides of the border," Mr Obama said.

Tom Donohue, president of the US Chamber of Commerce, said the trucking deal would promote job growth on both sides of the border, and called for an end to Mexico's tariffs.
    'Extraordinary courage'

Mr Obama also announced the US would soon look to "develop new sources of energy in the Gulf of Mexico" with the help of the Mexican government.

And he went on to praise Mr Calderon for his "extraordinary courage" in fighting drug cartels and cracking down on violence near their shared border.

Mr Obama said the US planned to send equipment to Mexico and train officials in the country to help in the efforts to combat violence.

He also said the US had to curb the flow of powerful weapons - which are easily acquired in US border states - to Mexico to arm the drug cartels.

"Mexico has a full partner with the United States," Mr Obama said, adding that US citizens had a "right to be safe in their communities".

Mr Calderon met US business leaders on Wednesday evening, with discussions focusing on opportunities for foreign investment in Mexico.
    Agent's death

Tensions between the countries have risen sharply since US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata was shot dead in northern Mexico roughly two weeks ago, reportedly with a weapon that came from the US.

"His death must urge us to work together to ensure a prosperous and peaceful future for our region," Mr Calderon said on Thursday.

On Sunday, the Mexican military arrested the suspected local head of Los Zetas drugs gang in the northern state of Coahuila.

Another alleged member of the gang has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the killing.

US and Mexican officials said Mr Calderon's trip had been arranged before Mr Zapata's death.

Canada, U.S. agree to use each other’s troops in civil emergencies

Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other’s borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other’s borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas.

The U.S. military’s Northern Command, however, publicized the agreement with a statement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.

The new agreement has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.

The left-leaning Council of Canadians, which is campaigning against what it calls the increasing integration of the U.S. and Canadian militaries, is raising concerns about the deal.

“It’s kind of a trend when it comes to issues of Canada-U.S. relations and contentious issues like military integration. We see that this government is reluctant to disclose information to Canadians that is readily available on American and Mexican websites,” said Stuart Trew, a researcher with the Council of Canadians.

Trew said there is potential for the agreement to militarize civilian responses to emergency incidents. He noted that work is also underway for the two nations to put in place a joint plan to protect common infrastructure such as roadways and oil pipelines.

“Are we going to see (U.S.) troops on our soil for minor potential threats to a pipeline or a road?” he asked.

Trew also noted the U.S. military does not allow its soldiers to operate under foreign command so there are questions about who controls American forces if they are requested for service in Canada. “We don’t know the answers because the government doesn’t want to even announce the plan,” he said.

But Canada Command spokesman Commander David Scanlon said it will be up to civilian authorities in both countries on whether military assistance is requested or even used.

He said the agreement is “benign” and simply sets the stage for military-to-military co-operation if the governments approve.

“But there’s no agreement to allow troops to come in,” he said. “It facilitates planning and co-ordination between the two militaries. The ‘allow’ piece is entirely up to the two governments.”

If U.S. forces were to come into Canada they would be under tactical control of the Canadian Forces but still under the command of the U.S. military, Scanlon added.

News of the deal, and the allegation it was kept secret in Canada, is already making the rounds on left-wing blogs and Internet sites as an example of the dangers of the growing integration between the two militaries.

On right-wing blogs in the U.S. it is being used as evidence of a plan for a “North American union” where foreign troops, not bound by U.S. laws, could be used by the American federal government to override local authorities.

“Co-operative militaries on Home Soil!” notes one website. “The next time your town has a ‘national emergency,’ don’t be surprised if Canadian soldiers respond. And remember — Canadian military aren’t bound by posse comitatus.”

Posse comitatus is a U.S. law that prohibits the use of federal troops from conducting law enforcement duties on domestic soil unless approved by Congress.

Scanlon said there was no intent to keep the agreement secret on the Canadian side of the border. He noted it will be reported on in the Canadian Forces newspaper next week and that publication will be put on the Internet.

Scanlon said the actual agreement hasn’t been released to the public as that requires approval from both nations. That decision has not yet been taken, he added.

The sad thing is, such a union is indeed in the future for North America. There is already the AU, EU, and USAN.

Even more disturbing than all of these unions, is the fact that the citizens do nothing to protest against them.

US "unarmed" drones track drug gangs in Mexico - report

The US has been sending unarmed drones over Mexico since February to gather intelligence on major drug cartels, the Mexican government has confirmed.

The flights were made at Mexico's request and were supervised by the Mexican air force and other agencies.

It is the latest sign of growing US involvement in Mexico's campaign against violent drugs gangs.

Mexico confirmed the missions had been taking place after they were revealed by the New York Times newspaper.

Most of the drone flights have been over northern border areas, the scene of much of the drug-related violence that has left more than 34,000 dead since late 2006.

The New York Times report said the missions had been kept secret because of Mexican legal restraints and sensitivities over sovereignty.

In a statement, Mexico's National Security Council said the high-altitude flights had been carried out with "unrestricted respect" for Mexican law.

"These operations are always carried out with the authorisation, vigilance and operative supervision of national agencies, including the Mexican Air Force," the statement said.
    Valuable intelligence

It added that the targets of surveillance were determined by Mexican authorities, and that information gathered had been "particularly useful".

Unnamed US officials told the New York Times that drones had gathered intelligence that led to the arrest in Mexico of several suspects in connection with the murder of a US immigration agent, Jaime Zapata.

US President Barack Obama and his Mexican counterpart, Felipe Calderon, formally agreed to continue the surveillance flights during talks in Washington on 3 March, which included a frank exchange of grievances, Mexican and US officials said.

In state department cables released by Wikileaks and published by The Guardian newspaper last December, the US ambassador to Mexico, Carlos Pascual, painted an unflattering portrait of the Mexican security forces, and questioned whether President Calderon could win his war on drugs.

Foreign military and law enforcement agents can only operate in Mexico under extremely limited conditions, according to the Mexican constitution.

But the rising violence in Mexico has seen the US and Mexico deepen their co-operation to tackle a common threat.

The NAU is bad bad bad! I do not want Canada or the USA to become one with Mexico. That is the worst thing that could happen to North America.
All things must come to the soul from it's roots, from where it is planted. The that is beside the running water is fresher, and gives more fruit.
