    The Decline of Society

Our society has declined from previous times, and is continuing to decline.

What is the decline of society? It has happened many times in the past. When Classical Greece, which produced so many architectural wonders, so many artistic masterpieces that are still looked upon in awe today, collapsed, society (in general) declined into a less prosperous state. The same can be seen when Rome is destroyed. The Dark Ages followed the collapse of Rome...

What identifies a society in decline? What identifies one in advancement?

What identifies a society in advancement is the 'surplus' of fine and intellectual abilities, if you will. In Classical Greece there were many great works of architecture produced, take the Parthenon for example. Many great works of art were produced (mainly sculptures.) Many philosophers, scientists, and new ideas came out of this time (Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Pythagoras, Archimedes, and many many more if you payed attention in school.) And also there was the development of Greek culture, as can be seen if you have ever read any Greek myths or epics.

These are 'surplus' in the sense that they are not basic necessities to survive, thus there are more resources and time for advancement when you can go beyond 'simply surviving', they were truly 'living.' Also something which has occurred in most, if not all 'advancing' civilizations, is expansion, colonization. Greeks were well known for their seafaring and colonization of the Mediterranean, as was Rome known for its conquest of Europe, and Imperial Europe for its colonization of all of the world. I would not list this as one of the criteria for 'advancement' as it seems to be only a direct result of it, rather than playing an part in it. That sounds very confusing, so what I mean is that the aforementioned fields influence each other, and colonization is removed from this. New mathematical formulas would influence architectural structure, cultural ideas could be reflected within the architecture as well, and so on.

Besides the few examples I listed above, we can also see this advancement in society in The Renaissance era, and the United States.

Now, what identifies a declining society? Well, the exact opposite of what I mentioned above. No 'surplus' for fine art, for fine architecture, for true unyielded expansion in all fields of science and thought (as science will always advance, no matter how slow it takes), no time for cultural expansion. And of course, a very good identifier for a civilization that is in decline, no further expansion. The quote: "Tolerance and apathy are the last virtues of a dying society", which is falsely attributed to Aristotle, comes to mind.

    -------------

Our society today clearly defines itself as a 'declining society' under the criteria I present above. One of the rather obvious results, or causes (or rather both), is individualism and hedonism. It is impossible to have a society and civilization of one individual who is only concerned with his own being! I am sure you all know how modern society fills the criteria, but I shall mention them just to be thorough.

Modern 'advancement' is seen as challenging the established ways of old; using 'new' ways of thinking that go against common sense, but are applauded just because "they are different." Modern works of art which rival those in "greatness" as those of the historical artists, are nothing more than paint splattered on a canvas at random. Lines painted by elephants are regarded as masterpieces. Modern architecture is the same, 'good' architectural works are only good because "they are different." The objective sciences, as I refer to them (history, science, mathematics) are certainly not advancing unyieldingly. There is state endorsed anti-science [Censorship of Science] (Remember Galileo fighting against the 'official' church doctrines?) Today everyone will surely receive their "15 minutes of fame" as Andy Warhol, a 'modern artist' whose work "8 Elvises" sold for $100 million, said so well.

    According to Wikipedia
$100 million is a benchmark price that only Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Pierre-August Renoir, Gustav Klimt and Willem de Kooning have achieved.[1]
So the world's most valuable works of art are created by Jackson Pollock (guy who randomly sprayed paint onto the canvas), Pablo Picasso (capable artist, although he heavily used strange techniques), Vincent van Gogh (capable artist, who again, had an unorthodox style, but one of the more 'realistic' ones), Pierre-August Renoir (the only artist on this list who produced realistic works, although with semi-realistic style of "Impressionism"), Gustav Klimt (capable artist, but again, very strange styles are seen in all his works), and Willem de Kooning (only a step above the paint splatter guy.)

    -------------

In conclusion, what can be said? Probably that I may have been overly critical on the elephant painting, that is pretty impressive. Also, monetary value on works of art may not always be the best way to gauge their importance (but one of the only ones it seems), as many of the historical works of art will never be given a price by the institutions or nations which own them; they are truly priceless.

But of course, the point of this thread, our society is in decline. And I believe we can reverse this, and we will if we try. I don't want to live in a modern Dark Age, do you?

What is to be done about the decline of society that we currently face?

I think in the West we generally pride ourselves on the decline of society and civilisation.

To some degree I think it is due to confusion. Once again generally speaking we hate Modern Life and what we have become. People blame this on technology and the attitudes that it took to get us here. People think if they can erode our society enough that we will somehow return to a smaller scale village life style. Or of course the darker aspect - Anarchy.

In terms of the arts, and the lack of appreciation thereof, I blame this on the education system, people are now taught the skills to perform jobs or tasks, they are not taught how to comprehend by learning philosphy and religion, mythology etc. Their minds are bound early on. This is why so many of our leaders are uninspiring and why films and music now are poor remakes or just plain boring, we have no imagination.

To me it seems to have come about in the late 90's. In the early 90's punk and grunge were big, we would talk about politics, art, mythology, religion, sure we would drink but it was not a critical form of recreation like it seems to be now. In a relaltively short amount of time it all ended up going the other way to people just consuming, getting drunk and listening to rap and techno which rely heavily on sampling music from the past - once again a sign of the death of imagination.
I grew up on a belief of honour, courage and the old world values. The world isn't about that anymore, preferring to die a slow death of fast food and cheap thrills.

I agree with you Meister, there is much confusion between all parties which dislike modern society. They are all doing something different, and accomplishing nothing.

I also agree that the cause of our most recent declines are due to a broken system. Although the general trend of decline has existed since the peak of the Age of Imperialism.

    ------

How do I think we can fix this?

I believe the answer is simple, we must ignite the will for change to occur. To do this we must rise up in the fields in which we wish to expand. We must produce great artists, great architects, great scientists, who hold affinity to Germanic culture and Germanic interests. If this is successful, changes of opinion in society will gradually make everything else fall into line, namely political offices and other high status jobs. They will gradually be replaced by pro-Germanics (as a greater percentage of people will be pro-Germanic.)

There is much talk among people on this forum that in order to save Germanics we must isolate ourselves. This is the worst thing we can do. As I always like to say, we can usually find an example of almost everything in history. Take for example the savage tribesmen of all continents. They do a wonderful job preserving their culture, traditions, and race. But at what cost? They willingly isolate themselves from the developed world, and thus are at a great technological advantage. Everywhere they have been found they have been subjected to destruction (not just by Europeans.) Is this what we want? To fall behind and willingly make ourselves weaker; willingly give up our ground? Germanics' high status in the world has come from our ability to share ideas and have others share theirs, and adapt them for our own usage, but most importantly, be at the forefront of these advancements.

Are we just going to give up and let "them" win, or are we going to try? Are we going to be serious?

We cannot hide in the shadows on internet forums and just chat, and we cannot isolate ourselves. We must bring about the changes we wish to happen.

It seems that often it is the very greatness of societies which lead to their downfall. A prosperous society attracts the poor, and a society of imperial patricians, such as existed in Rome during the late republican and early imperial eras and in Britain c. 1750-1950, requires slaves and servants in ever greater numbers in order to buoy the great estates. Therefore, for every connoisseur there appear to be twenty of decidedly low taste and disposition, who are kept in such a state through peer pressure and the unattainability of a higher station. So now in Britain you see the yobs and chavs who have no aspiration to be anything more, and have tastes to match.

In places where a middle class was encouraged to grow, a larger number of people had their measure of culture and education, which, given no interference from lower cultures, tended to grow the base of good taste so that finer things gained wider appreciation. America was like this until the late 60s, when negroes and their degenerate ways began to be forced upon society as a whole. Before they had been separate, but with integration came lowest-common-denominator thought, and the dumbing down of everyone proceeded at an ever greater pace. Once the older generation of White folks die off, there will be very few in this mass of worthless humanity who will respect the arts and culture as we did only a few decades ago.

Yes, civilizations have proved to be horrible at self-regulation.

Indeed, a stable base is needed. Unfortunately our stable base has been destroyed. Not only by disruption of its numbers (immigration, and as you say, integration), but also the destruction of its coherency, its organization, its goals.

No longer do people work for the common good, for their family, for their posterity. Only for themselves. It's all about living in the now, and "being yourself..."

civilizations usually acquire a lot of wealth which is attractive to other folks who are not able to make a civilization. they come for the riches, not for the culture.

Especially Jews who have a knack for corrupting the governments of a people so they can drain the wealth. As they don't have an understanding of the culture they don't mind to destroy it. For Jews it is always beneficial when the folkish character of a civilization is destroyed because then they don't stick out. If many different folk is brought in they don't stick out.

Many different folks brought into a civilization which are not understanding the host culture but bring their ways of life into it is finally destructive to it.

For a civilization to flourish one needs a homogenuous people. Diversity is killing it.

China enjoyed a high culture of millenia because they protected their borders. Rome got destroyed quickly as they expanded and brought foreigners in. That is a sure measure to destroy.

The biggest problem with today is not even the native people understand their own culture anymore!

This is why we need a resurgence of our culture! Because only then can we start to reverse this situation.

I think this is why so many people want Society to crumble, to start again and perhaps build something better. It's an extreme thought of course but sometimes things get so depressing you just start reaching for extremes.

True, as history shows, the cycle of society will continue. The cycle of starting anew can also be seen in Norse Mythology.

But is starting over, at this point, really what we want? We are (or recently were) at the highest point that mankind has ever achieved. Why destroy all of our progress to force a new society after us have to re-achieve all of these feats?

We are not too close to the point of no return, we can still fix this situation. Perseverance is also an important part of Norse Mythology/Religion.

I believe that the decline of a society is marked by the loss of vitality, vigor and the high belief in its own goals and existence. It's marked by the loss of the will to fight for it's identity and ideals.
This in turn leads to the decline of expressions of that culture in terms of art and architecture.
First the spirit falls, and then society and culture follows.

Honor and defend the northern people,
Honor and defend the northern lands,
    Walk the Northern Path,
    Sigr!
