Does Swedish Culture Hinder Swedish Children?

While Sweden's emphasis on equality is admirable, it may end up keeping Swedish children from striving to be the best they can be, argues contributor Ruben Brunsveld.

Sweden is a country with a strongly rooted culture. Lots of traditions, varying from the singing of “Helan går” to the celebrating of the name day, all serve to preserve and protect a common sense of identity.

This common identity is also strengthened by the fact that Sweden has always been located on the periphery of Europe, relatively isolated with a landscape and climate that are impenetrable for most foreigners for a good part of the year.

The 20th century was one during which Sweden relied primarily on itself with relatively little need to explore the outside world, only joining the European Union almost 40 years after its conception.

This lack of inter-cultural exposure and the inward nature of Swedes during the last century might be a few of the reasons why the communication skills of Swedes are generally regarded as not very strong.

Swedes are used to low-context communication. In other words, “I say what I think and I do what I say”. There is no reason to beat around the bush or to spend any more words on a proposal than absolutely necessary.

While this kind of communication can work with Danes, Dutch or German people they often fail to see that when dealing with other nationalities this creates a distance with their communication partner or in the worst case even offends him or her.

I admire so much about Sweden racially and culturally but it seems those in power there are trying to destroy all that

Ruben Brunsveld sounds somewhat Dutch, doesn't it? And judging from his profile on another site that seems to be correct.

But that's certainly not what he looks like either:

Looks to me like he has Indonesian blood in him.

Yes, he seems to be from the Netherlands. Here's another article by him against the far-right (he's a 'human rights specialist') in which he mentions that he came from the Netherlands:

    http://www.thelocal.se/29210/20100923/
'Don't let the far-right dominate the debate'

As the Sweden Democrats prepare to take their seats in the Riksdag next month, contributor Ruben Brunsveld hopes Sweden's politicians can learn from the mistakes made by their Dutch counterparts in dealing with the far-right.

I was a Human Rights specialist at the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations in the years after the murder of far-right populist politician Pim Fortuyn, who called for Dutch borders to be closed to Muslim immigrants. The period in which the extreme-right became a political factor of importance in the Netherlands. The years in which one man dominated the political debate: Geert Wilders, who sees Islamization as a "creeping tyranny" and whose break-away Party of Freedom in now the third biggest party in the country.

Now, having moved to Sweden as Director of the Stockholm Institute for Public Speaking, I am merely a witness. A witness to history repeating itself. Different country, but the same slogans. Different faces, but the same rhetoric. Different people but the same message. (..)

    2. Challenge, charge and conquer
Now that the Sweden Democrats are in parliament you must challenge them from all sides. Challenge their beliefs, challenges their ideas and most of all challenge them to produce solutions. Populists throughout Europe know how to formulate the problems, but they rarely have solutions.

Challenge them to come up with viable, sustainable and long-term solutions that do justice to both your national agenda and the international framework. The people will soon recognize that there is no real substance to their ideology.

You have to charge. This means being on the offensive. Encourage an open debate, set the agenda and deal with it. Do not give the extreme-right the possibility to dominate the public debate. Be one step ahead of them, listen to your voters and most of all, listen to theirs!

This does not mean adapting your political ideology, but it does mean it is up to you to make things happen. It is up to you to make a change and it is up to you to convince people that the Sweden Democrats is not an alternative.

Conquer. There can be no mercy.

It will take a lot of time and energy but every belief must be challenged, every argument countered and every debate must be won. Not through the arrogance of self-righteousness, but through the knowledge that you are fighting a just cause.
Why are all the leftist nutjobs moving to Sweden lately?

So, Mr Brunsveld (what's your real name, eh?), the genocide through multiculturalism that noone asked for now is a just cause?

Different country, but the same slogans. Different faces, but the same rhetoric. Different people but the same message
    I wonder why?

Could it be that all these different people speak out against the SAME bullshit caused by the SAME hostile aliens?

Damn I hope there are enough Swedes that are proud of themselves to keep real Swedish culture going.

I know some Stockholmers who, despite being fairly sexually liberal and completely fulfilling the drunken "party animal" stereotype, have managed to maintain a thread of traditional Swedish culture. They're far from the type to dance around the maypole, but they love and respect nature, folk music, dala horses, etc. They make me proud in that respect, and I hope there are at least a few more like that in Sweden today...

When is Sweden going to wake up and reject the liberal agenda???

All Multicultural countries hinder their children, too much time is spent educating PC, tolerance and understanding the foreign cultures that there is no time left for maths, reading or the host culture.

I don't believe in MultiCult at all but if you really wanted it to work you would only have people from similar cultures (ie white and Christian) and you would ensure that the host culture is so strong that immigrants just assimiliate.
I grew up on a belief of honour, courage and the old world values. The world isn't about that anymore, preferring to die a slow death of fast food and cheap thrills.
