Yeah, sure there's a lot of pages on the internet, try that for start :

http://www.westpreussen-online.de/ portal devoted to West Prussia

OstpreussenTV youtube channel of East Prussia TV

Familienforschung in Westpreußen genealogical research tools

    Rezepte aus Ostpreußen
    traditional recipes from East Prussia

Das Westpreußenmuseum museum of West Prussia province

I welcome you all to the non-existent world of West and East Prussia, fate that awaits rest of Germany, England, America and Afrikaners...

Strange. Culture that presently exists only in virtual reality of the internet.

One of my favourite and mythical places in Germany is the Teutoburg Forest where germanic tribes and roman legions had a decisive battle.

The South is the most known to tourists/foreigners and probably 90% of the time people will recommend you to go there. Well I'm going to be less cliche and suggest uncovering the North instead.

It's not as widely known and commercialized, however its festivals have still made it in the media - I just recently posted a thread about Frisian traditions: http://forums.skadi.net/showthread.php?t=139476

And there are smaller and more local scale examples. The North is not unauthentic, it's just not as popular with tourists as the South (one more reason to visit it ).

I wonder how many German families speak "Hochdeutsch" at home.
I did not find many during my times in Germany.
My wife's parents in the "Pfalz" sure had a hard time speaking it. They almost spoke "Alsatian" (Elsaessisch) Plattdeutsch like me.

Having now been several times, I would say anywhere there is not tourist sites. If your meaning is to find true Germans and everyday customs.

Only the elderly speak it regularly, my grandma spoke Alsatian with me, but my Jacobin mom was telling her off for doing so, also we neither were allowed to speak in dialect in school. What is left usually is a Standard German spoken with a slight accent so one still can notice whether someone is from Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart etc.

On the other hand, Kanak Sprak (wog talk, or scientifically multiethnolect) becomes more and more popular among the German youth.

Since almost every big city is very cultural "enriched" by foreigners, mainly arabs.

The countryside is the only way to expirience real Germany, other than that East Germany, even big cities like Dresden or Leipzig.

None anymore, according to this deeply saddening video:
