Post German Foundation Refuses to Return Nefertiti Bust to Egypt

A German foundation rejected Monday an Egyptian request to return the 3,400-year-old bust of Queen Nefertiti, a sculpture which draws over one million viewers annually to a Berlin museum.

Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) sent the request to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, which runs the Neues Museum in the German capital where the bust is kept.

"The foundation's position on the return of Nefertiti remains unchanged," foundation president Professor Hermann Parzinger said in a statement. "She is and remains the ambassador of Egypt in Berlin."

Egypt's antiquities chief, Zahi Hawass, appealed to the foundation seeking the return of the bust, famed for its almond-shaped eyes and swan-like neck. However, the foundation said it did not consider the letter an official state request as it had not been signed by Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif.

German archaeologist Ludwig Borchardt discovered the bust about 275 km south of Cairo in 1912, and it was taken to Germany the following year

The Nefertiti is a property of Ancient Egyptians that have long gone to exist. Present inhabitants of Egypt are arabs and they have nothing common with treasures of ancient Egypt. So bust belongs rightfully to the Germans.

I wonder how much the Egyptian economy revolves around tourism and the Suez canal.
National Socialism is the only salvation for Germanics and Europids everywhere. Capitalism, libertarianism, and communism is the enemy.

National socialized collectivism must prevail over radical individualism.

I think it is just an arabs greed .Because for them Nefertiti has neither historical nor spiritual importance. And i am not sure that they will be able to keep her in clean and good condition because they has problems with responsibility. So i think their demands has no sence.

This has to be an Egyptian joke. The old Egyptians are long extinct, both culturally, spiritually and also mostly ethnically. The current Egyptians are Arabs who came to the country and effectively destroyed everything what remained from the old glorious times. Current "Egypt" doesn´t deserve the name, it´s an Arab country like all other Arab Muslim countries. They exist at the expense of the fame of an ancient culture and ancient people. No Arab Muslims have built the Pyramids, no Arab Muslim was a pharaoh.

I actually think that it should be returned.

After Egypt pays a reasonable price for it. I guess, ultimately, they "might" "deserve" it slightly more, but that is not how property rights work in the real world. They can either buy it for it's value, or attempt to take it by force. They have no legitimate claim to simply ask for it for free - that's just dumb.

Just like the Turks who try to cash in on the popularity of Saint Nicholas with this Santa Claus village:

They spit on the ancient byzantine christian heritage of these lands, which they let rot away. But if they think they can make a quick buck by exploiting western tourism, they'll do it.

Turkey now also wants back an ancient Sphinx from Berlin and threatens Germany:

Return our sphinx or else, Turkey tells Germany

Turkey's culture minister on Thursday demanded Germany return an ancient sphinx uncovered from a German archeological dig nearly a century ago or it would revoke permits for other excavations.
Ertugrul Gunay told the Tagesspiegel daily in an interview that German authorities had until the start of the digging season in June to hand back the priceless artefact, thought to date from around 1400 BC.
The sphinx, dug up from the ancient city of Hattusha, the capital of the Hittite empire, in the early part of the 20th century, was taken to Germany for restoration but now sits in a Berlin museum, much to Turkey's annoyance. (..)

Turkey wants its sphinx back, minister says

Turkey’s culture minister gave Germany an ultimatum on Thursday – return a valuable sphinx displayed at Berlin’s Pergamon Museum or lose the right to continue digging at the archaeological site where it was found.

If the museum fails to return the Sphinx of Hattusa by July, the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) will be restricted from research at the ancient Hittite empire capital, Ertugrul Günay told daily Der Tagesspiegel. (..)
A little funny as the turks don't have any cultural ties to these artifacts themselsves, as they only conquered these regions in the late middle ages. And the sphinx in question is already in Berlin for almost a century. I wonder when other countries like Iraq will join Egypt and Turkey with new demands.
