Minority Language in the Majority at 51 Oslo Schools

Pupils with Norwegian as their first language are a minority in 51 of 124 primary schools in Oslo, according to new figures from the city of Oslo.

All the schools where pupils with Norwegian as their first language are in the minority, is located on the east side of Oslo.

The proportion of minority students has increased slightly compared with the previous school year. During the school year 2009/2010, the proportion of minority students in the Oslo schools 39.6 per cent. This school year is the proportion of 39.8 percent, according to figures from the municipality. Oslo has a total of 54,344 pupils in primary schools. 21,626 of the children belonging to linguistic minorities. Approximately 63 percent of minority students receive special tuition.

Six of the schools has more than 90 percent minority students, while six schools have more than 90 per cent of pupils with Norwegian as their mother tongue.

    - Education defines a minority student as a student with a mother tongue other than Norwegian and Sami, the NTB reported by Oslo's Education department.

The source of information about the mother tongue is the parents' own information on the school entry form, according to a letter the school council Torger Ødegaard sent to the Ministry of Culture and Education Committee in Oslo in 2006.

I thought Norwegian was the official language.

Approximately 63 percent of minority students receive special tuition.
Just like here in America, they get 'translators' who do all their homework, and the government gives them a free ride. At expense of the tax payers and those who have to live with these uneducated and hostile people.
