    Anti-German German-Americans

Do you have any stories similar to the one below you would like to share?

Hammer-wielding Yorkers helped to nail the Kaiser's noggin'.

The Little Courthouse above, a replica of the first York County Court House, stands on York's Centre Square during World War I. The courthouse served as a center for war bond sales and promoted the bonds in a way that today might be considered politically incorrect. An effigy of Kaiser Wilhelm II is seen in the left foreground. For a small sum, donors could drive nails into the German leader's head.

The York Daily Record/Sunday News' Christmas Day editorial (see below) touted some of York County's long overlooked accomplishments during World War I.

The editorial touched on one of those achievements: the ability of the heavily German York County to rally for American involvement even though we were fighting against Germans. It was brother against brother... .

One resident learned that his two sons, fighting on the German side, had been killed in fighting. And another learned that his borther earned Kaiser Wilhelm's Iron Cross for bravery.

Still, some contended that German-American communities couldn't be trusted.

In my book, "In the thick of the fight," I wrote that Mayor E.S. Hugentugler bristled at such an anti-American suggestion and set to work to position the community behind the war.

He banned anti-war meetings, organized anti-spy groups, assigned guard to county industrial plants and prosecuted distributors of anti-war literature.

At the same time, he called for York residents to back a loyalty pledge showing support for the war. Three-quarters of city men eligible to vote signed the pledge.

But its most public move, the community set up a wooden carving of the kaiser's helmeted dome in York's main square and put a 10-cent-a-nail price on it. Donors lifted a hammer with a read, white and blue handle to drive the spikes into the German emperor's head. At one point, eight pouds of nails protruded from the wooden figure's noggin.

"This is one of the many hammers in the land that is helping to nail kaiserism," The York Dispatch reported.

The following incident was yet another case of Germans threatening Germans:

“Get the Rope!” Anti-German Violence in World War I-era Wisconsin

In the early 20th century, German Americans were the nation’s largest immigrant group. Although they were regarded as a model of successful assimilation, they faced vicious—and sometimes violent—attacks on their loyalty when the United States went to war against Germany in 1917. The most notorious incident was the lynching of German-born Robert Prager in Colinsville, Illinois, in April 1918. Other incidents stopped just short of murder. In a statement made on October 22, 1918, John Deml, a farmer in Outagamie County, a heavily German and Scandinavian area of Wisconsin, described the nativist mob that had visited him two days earlier. Suspected of not strongly enough supporting the war effort, he was narrowly saved from lynching.

A Statement made by John Deml of Outagamie County, Wisconsin, at Madison, Wisconsin, Tuesday, October 22, 1918.

About half-past twelve (continuing for more than an hour) Sunday morning October 20th, my wife awaked me, saying, that there were a large number of men on the front porch, pounding and rapping on the door, besides talking in a loud tone of voice. I was upstairs; then I came downstairs and went to the front door, where they were, and I asked them, who was there! Several answered at once, “The Council of Defense.” I then asked them, “What do you want?” and they replied, “We want you to sign up.” I replied, “I have done my share.”And they asked me when, and I replied, “I did my share in the spring.”(That is, I meant to say I had done my share in the third loan, when I subscribed for $450 in bonds.) To make it plain, on the 28th of September, at the opening of the fourth drive, I was notified by letter that my bond assessment would be $800. When Henry Baumann came to see me, I told him I could not possibly take $500 now but would take some, meaning a substantial amount, that is all I could afford; and he replied, “My orders are you must take $500 or nothing.”

After I had replied that I had done my share in the spring, they demanded that I open the door and let them in. I told them I didn’t have to open the door; then they undertook to force the door open, and went so far as to tear the screen door open; then they threatened to break down the door, and I said, “Come on then, boys.” Then they appeared to be planning, and while they were doing that, I took the time to put my shoes on. By that time they were at the kitchen door, and they made a demand that I let them in through that door; then I went to the kitchen door and opened it and found a crowd of men (much larger than I expected) around the door, and then reaching out two by two around towards the front of the house. I left the door and walked to the front porch to see if they had done any painting (as they had previously painted a neighbor’s mail-box); I walked to the road to see if they had painted my mail-box. And then I turned around to return to the house when they all at one time closed in on me like a vise; some grabbing my fingers or wrist, others my legs, and several of them were shouting, holding a paper before me, “Sign up.” I said, “I will not sign up at this time of night.” Then a man shouted, “Get the rope!” The first I knew was when the rope was about my neck and around my body under my arms. Someone then gave a sharp jerk at the rope and forced me to my knees and hands; at the same time some of them jumped on my back, and while bent over someone struck me in the face, making me bleed; then a man (whom I recognized) said, “Boys, you are going to far”; and then, as they got me away from them a little, I heard a man say, “You can’t scare him.” I answered,“I am not afraid of the entire city of Appleton.” Then a man (whom I knew) got me to one side, and he said, “Let’s go into the house and talk between ourselves.” Then two men (whom I knew) went with me into the house, and we sat or stood around the table, and they still demanded that I sign up. I said, “I will not sign up for any man after being abused like this.” Then a man (whom I knew) told me I would have to go with them, or, if I didn’t go with them, would have to come to town that Sunday morning at 10 o’clock to see Mr. Keller. I told them that I would be there; they left; as they left, I noticed, and so did my family and neighbors, that they rode away in seven automobiles. I did not go to see Mr. Keller. Signed, JOHN DEML.

As a result of the following actions hundreds of old recipes were lost:

America's entry into World War I made Prohibition seem patriotic since many breweries were owned by German Americans. The Anti-Saloon League, urged the federal government to investigate "a number of breweries around the country which are owned in part by alien enemies." In December 1917, Congress passed the 18th Amendment. A month later, President Woodrow Wilson instituted partial prohibition to conserve grain for the war effort. Beer was limited to 2.75 percent alcohol content and production was held to 70 percent of the previous year's production. In September, the president issued a ban on the wartime production of beer.

National Prohibition was defended as a war measure. The amendment's proponents argued that grain should be made into bread for fighting men and not for making liquor. Anti-German sentiment aided Prohibition's approval. The Anti-Saloon League called Milwaukee's brewers "the worst of all our German enemies," and dubbed their beer "Kaiser brew."

    German-American Bund

Prior to WWI there was close relationship between Germany and America as represented by the Bund, but after their sons and nephews started showing up in the trenches and body bags to the rear, the friendly relationship came to a quick end and the Bund collapsed. So much for friendly relations. Then came the rise of Nazism which terrified many German-Americans, especially after the U.S. Government began interring Japanese-Americans in the camps. My Grandmother owned a copy of "Mein Kampf" who took it out and burned it in 1941 because she was afraid that if the FBI caught her with it, it was interrogation and the camps for her...

In fact, my mother's Uncle Hagedorn, was a Major in the OSS North America, whose sole responsibility was keeping tabs on the Head of Gestapo Operations and various other operators and operations in North America during the War. He did his graduate work under this guy in German Literature at OSU and who was also the head of the Literature Department there. He was arrested in 1944 down in Florida waiting for a U-boat to pick him up after he realized his cover had been blown for years. And I won't mention other German Americans who died or were wounded all over Europe while trying to contain and destroy the Third Reich, some family members included.

But the Wars and hostilities are long over and past, time to reestablish and maintain friendly relations...

I am waiting to see if some anti-Jihadi Arabs will start dragging their fellows out of bed and threating them with harm unless they support the "war on terror". Not bloody likely.

Could it be that the continental Germans and their American born off-spring prefer to "play by the rules" and go along with societal and political trends rather than rebel... or is it that Germans and other Germanic branches hate a tyrant?

During WWII, the US military was almost 1/4 German. Even my own grandpa.

By 1941 Roosevelt and Hitler had practically vanquished their domestic opposition. We always hear how Hitler did it, but FDR too was pretty successful by wiping out anything/anyone remotely antisemitic, "neutralist", pro-Hitler and the North American National-Socialists ("5th column of Hitler"). Father McCoughlin's Social-Justice-movement marginalized (Roosevelt banned his broadcasts in October 1939, and then ordered the US Postal Office to "revoke his mailing privilege"), and finnally the priest gave up in December 1941 when the America First Comitee (Charles Lindbergh) was dissoluted.
He could still print his editorials without censorship in his own newspaper, Social Justice. However, the Roosevelt Administration stepped in again, this time revoking his mailing privilegesand making it impossible for Coughlin to deliver the papers to his readers. He had the right to publish whatever he wanted, but not the right to use the United States Post Office Department to deliver it
So much for the myth of the 1st amendment.

The German-American Bund was forbidden in by the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC) in December 1941. It's chairman Fritz Kuhn prosecuted and imprisoned already in 1939 (the infamous "Tax evasion and embezzlement of funds", applied against DD 60 years later as well).
The "Mussolini of Lousiana" Governor Long had been shot already in 1935, Charles Lindbergh, Senator Taft and many others slandered as "Nazi-agents" or "apologists for Hitler" and so forth, all their activities came to end in December 1941.

The result of 12 years Roosevelt clearly is the National-Security State for the US next to all other known events and effects including 60+ million deaths, and as a result we have the world we live in today.

    Dutch-American Bund

Lest we forget... FDR descended from a long established Dutch Family in New York. A Germanic by any stripe...

Sure. His mother Sara-Ann (nee Delano) was from a Huguenot family, just to mention it.

His fathers ancestors came as Calvinists (Dutch-Reformed) when the Netherlands were still part of the Holy Roman Empire (thus: German Reich) and at one time, i never was able to find out exactly when, the Roosevelt family converted to the Church of England (Episcopalian). I think that happened somewhere in the 18th century and surely out of opportunism, after New Amsterdam was renamed to New York. Two significant private habits of former Wall Street lawyer (of Carter, Ledyard & Milburn) Franklin D. Roosevelt that i always found interesting.

    1. His chain smoking habit. FDR needed at average 60 pieces per day.
    2. Unlike most Americans he was fluent in foreign languages: French and German. This enabled him later to listen to Hitler speeches live on the radio in the Oval Office without translator, and while making notes, already dictating his official statements to what Hitler said.
3.His marriage to his cousin Eleanor Roosevelt (nee Roosevelt) which eventually turned into his double life. Most biographers agree that FDR really liked only two women in his life: His mother Sara and Lucy Mercer.

Most biographers also agree that the Roosevelt couple had no intimacy after 1920, along with different bedrooms. Thus FDR kept his marriage for image and career reasons going while sharing bed only with Lucy Mercer, his mistress. Lucy was also the woman who was at Roosevelt's death bed on April 12, 1945.

Roosevelt had affairs outside his marriage, including one with Eleanor's social secretary Lucy Mercer which began soon after she was hired in early 1914. In September 1918, Eleanor found letters revealing the affair in Roosevelt's luggage, when he returned from World War I. According to the Roosevelt family, Eleanor offered Franklin a divorce so that he could be with the woman he loved, but Lucy, being Catholic, could not bring herself to marry a divorced man with five children. According to FDR's biographer Jean Edward Smith it is generally accepted that Eleanor indeed offered "to give Franklin his freedom."[15] However, they reconciled after a fashion with the informal mediation of Roosevelt's adviser Louis McHenry Howe, and FDR promised never to see Lucy again. His mother Sara also intervened, and told Franklin that if he divorced his wife, he would bring scandal upon the family, and she "would not give him another dollar."
    ...
Lucy was even given the code name "Mrs. Johnson" by the Secret Service.[18] Indeed, Lucy was with FDR on the day he died
Eleanor of course knew all this, but she kept the marriage going and even aided FDR's career, despite her husband sleeping with another woman.

I think this spicy detail is very telling about the spiritual life and the hypocrisy of parts of the East Coast Establishment.

People why you keep pulling this bullshit about Roosevelt. Delano is a sephardic surname and everyone knows, that jews were occassionally converting in XVIIth century to protestantism to cover themselves. Rooselvelt was a sephardic jew and that's why he wanted to destroy Hitler so much, Third Reich jewry expert Alexander von Leers in 1930s revealed truth about Roosevelt, and other rats in american establishment already!

Simply as that, in totally juden-overrun Poland (the most jew-firendly country in history), jewosh persons were converting to catholicism and still retaining their secret bloodlines. In Hungary the same. The jews posing as aristocrats, hugenots, martian tourists and even kkk members is one of their oldest tricks!
