Merkel Says German Multicultural Society Has Failed

Attempts to build a multicultural society in Germany have "utterly failed", Chancellor Angela Merkel says.

In a speech in Potsdam, she said the so-called "multikulti" concept - where people would "live side-by-side" happily - did not work.

A recent survey showed that more than 30% of Germans believed Germany was "overrun by foreigners".

"the beginning of the 60s our country called the foreign workers to come to Germany and now they live in our country... We kidded ourselves a while, we said: 'They won't stay, sometime they will be gone', but this isn't reality.

"And of course, the approach [to build] a multicultural [society] and to live side-by-side and to enjoy each other... has failed, utterly failed."

In her speech, the chancellor specifically referred to recent comments by German President Christian Wulff who said that Islam was "part of Germany" like Christianity and Judaism.

"Anyone who does not immediately speak German", she said, "is not welcome".

Earlier this week, Horst Seehofer, the leader of the CDU's Bavarian sister party, CSU, said about integration that it was "obvious that immigrants from different cultures like Turkey and Arab countries, all in all, find it harder".

"'Multikulti' is dead," Mr Seehofer said.

In August, Thilo Sarrazin, a senior official at Germany's central bank, said that "no immigrant group other than Muslims is so strongly connected with claims on the welfare state and crime". Mr Sarrazin has since resigned.

Chancellor Merkel says German bid at multi-cultural society has failed

BERLIN: Germany's attempts to create a multi-cultural society in which people from various cultural backgrounds live together peacefully have failed, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Saturday.

"Multikulti", the concept that "we are now living side by side and are happy about it," does not work, Merkel told a meeting of younger members of her conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party at Potsdam near Berlin.

"This approach has failed, totally," she said.

Merkel spoke a week after talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in which they pledged to do more to improve the often poor integration record of Germany's 2.5-million-strong Turkish community.

Horst Seehofer, the leader of the CDU's Bavarian sister party, CSU, told the same party meeting Friday that the two Union parties were "committed to a dominant German culture and opposed to a multicultural one.

    "'Multikulti' is dead," he said.

While warning against "immigration that weighs down on our social system", Merkel said that Germany needed specialists from overseas to keep the pace of its economic development.

According to the head of the German chamber of commerce and industry, Hans Heinrich Driftmann, Germany is in urgent need of about 400,000 engineers and qualified workers.

"The lack is causing a loss of growth of about one per cent," he said in an interview.

Jewish leaders in Germany meanwhile warned that German society and democracy were under threat from extremists.

A recent expert study should prompt the government to act against antidemocratic ideas, the secretary general of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Stephan Kramer, told the Rheinpfalz am Sonntag weekly.

The study, by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation think tank, showed that 34.3 per cent of those surveyed believed Germany's 16 million immigrants or people with foreign origins came to the country for the social benefits.

35.6 per cent think Germany is being "over-run by foreigners" and more than one in 10 called for a "Fuehrer" to run the country "with a strong hand".

Thirty-two percent of people said they agreed with the statement: "Foreigners should be sent home when jobs are scarce."

Far-right attitudes are found not only at the extremes of German society, but "to a worrying degree at the centre of society," the report noted.

58.4 percent of the 2,411 people polled thought the around four million Muslims in Germany should have their religious practices "significantly curbed."

The integration of Muslims has been a hot button issue since August when a member of Germany's central bank sparked outrage by saying the country was being made "more stupid" by poorly educated and unproductive Muslim migrants with headscarves.

The banker, Thilo Sarrazin, has since resigned but his book on the subject -- "Germany Does Itself In" -- has flown off the shelves, and polls showed considerable sympathy for some of his views.

Kramer also criticised CSU leader Seehofer for ideas which he said were "not only petty but outright irresponsible" and slammed the current immigration debate as "hysterical". - AFP/fa

    words words words.

you will not see any action against it.

Politicians are the just the flies around the jewshit. They have no power to make any decision. They are just muppets talking what the jewhand makes them to do and to say.

Turkey is scheduled next year to join the EU and have then the right to send it's citizens to Europe. That Merkel-puppet just stopped her enemity to that policy and agreed to let Turkey join.

Don't believe their words watch their action.

As politician nothing but open liars they have no honor no nothing. Paid executors of the german people.

All I want to see is the action, abolish multicultural laws. Europe and Germany are allready loaded with sub non-Europeans,now Europe is receiving more from Turkey next year,by by Europe. It seems some of our politicians really do want go back to one nationality = no multicultural but they don't have the balz to go up against the EU. I really don't know why the men who created multicultural Europe thought an multicultural Europe was the best thing for Europe??? if multicultural was so great, why have not the Asians and Islam adopted it? cause they are much smarter! really wish these words of wisdom turns into action that turns Europe back into an European state.

    About turn!

    Eureka!
Perhaps the white South Africans of German descent should start to polish up their German. The Heimat might start calling.
I just find it strange that barely a month ago Angela Merkel said something to the effect that Germans should get used to minarets on the skyline as it is part of Germany now.
What made her change her mind?
Could she have been visiting the Skadi Forum?

So probably Merkel and her idiotic friends think that the solution is probably to get rid of all the ethnic Germans in Germany because its them that are the root cause.
    No more Germans...no more problem.

Had just read the article on the net & was going to post it but its already on here, quick work Roderic

Its good news that there are more & more cracks appearing in the world of multiculturalism but i wouldn't trust a word of what Merkel say's. She's a politician & wants to stay in power & will do anything to keep her power. She now realises the expulusion (forced resignation) of Thilo Sarrazin was a vote losing descision.

I don't honestly believe that Turkey will ever be allowed to join the EU because i believe it will be the straw that broke the camels back. Certain countries & politicians within the EU who have been sceptical have tried to make the EU wider (larger) rather than deeper (smaller & deeply intergrated) with the intention of reducing the effect of it. This in the short term (relatively) has caused us all sorts of hurt & problems but the long term effect will be the EU becomes so large/chaotic/corrupt that it implodes on itselfs. Personally I would have preferred that they had the guts to stand up to this behemoth in the first place. The momentum is building & more & more people are starting to see the error of their ways.

These are pretty strong words from Merkel. I don't think a British politician could get away with them.
Of course, she had strong words to attack Sarrazin when he said similar things last month (and ended up losing his job). The main difference I can see is that Tharrazin was more explicitly linking 'german-nes' with ethnic background, while Merkel claims to want 'integration', although she didn't talk much about that in this speech that I've seen (probably so she sounds 'tougher' and more appealing to people concerned about the future). Merekl obviously sees that Sarrazin's bestselling book has some support for those views and wants to win those votes, taking them away from the "right". Unfortunately, this tactic has worked very well in the past for mainstream parties and will probably work again .

ps: since she wants a 'dominant german culture', our 'cultural nationalists' (you know who you are) should be more than happy to support her efforts

If she is doing this is because her Jewish masters told her to do so.

Israel is aready surrounded by muslim countries so the zionists don't like very much the idea of an Eurabia.

They only think in the survival of the state of Israel and support right-wing pro-zionist islamophobes like Geert Wilders.

Those Yids at Central Council of Jews in Germany and the ones in the media are mostly Judeo-Communists like Milliband the new Labour Party leader in the UK.

While this is good news they need to follow it up with real action. They need to cut immigration! Their racial and cultural identity is more important than 1% economic growth. They should train their own people for this. Bringing more in is just the guest workers again.
