Love is willingness to sacrifice for the beloved, whether it means dying on the battlefield or getting up half an hour earlier to make breakfast for him.

Ganz er selbst sein darf jeder nur, solange er allein ist. Wer also nicht die Einsamkeit liebt, der liebt auch nicht die Freiheit; denn nur wenn man allein ist, ist man frei. Schopenhauer
Exceptions don't negate the general rule.
As for love I'm going to quote a literary writer..................
Love is like a beautiful mist in the middle of the morning like a quiet elegant fog that surrounds you where when the sun rises up it merely burns into evaporation in your hands by merely showing it's temporary state of being leaving the onlooker to perceive in wonder what caused the events of the whole misfortunate tragedy.........................
National Socialism is the only salvation for Germanics and Europids everywhere. Capitalism, libertarianism, and communism is the enemy.
National socialized collectivism must prevail over radical individualism.
Just as you said, exceptions don't negate the general rule. Let's say that according to the general rule LOVE IS SOMETHING SO WONDERFUL THAT IT CANNOT BE DESCRIBED IN WORDS*, so other opinions are just misfortunate exceptions.
Don't forget that people are responsible for creating their own tragedies, that they have the power to create everything that happens to them. So if you think like that, you'll be the exception, and you'll never find TRUE LOVE.
And about the quote... it sounds nice. But there seems to be a problem of misinterpretation. The misfortunate tragedy is not love itself, but the events that make things happen in a way or another. Isn't the quiet elegant fog of the morning just so wonderful (now literally)? It should make someone happy even if it's for a couple of moments... and the next morning there is a chance it will be there again. Oh, Nature is such a wonderful force!
Sorry for this too long message, but I just couldn't retain myself from posting a reply. However, I think people who talk too much about love, especially complaining about it, are most likely people who don't know what love is. People who know what love really is are more likely to spend their time enjoying it, than debating on it.
* and there is my one-sentence, to be on-topic.
Die Farben duften frisch und grün... Lieblich haucht der Wind um mich.
