Woman With Some Native American Ancestry

I've been dating this woman for about a year now. I think she said her ancestry is mostly German, British, Welsh and various other European races. This woman is as White as any other, having blonde hair, green eyes and European facial features, as you would expect from her European ancestry.

However, she apparently has some Native American ancestry from who knows when. She has something on her bedroom wall from elementary school I've seen... by like a pow wow chairperson, some kind of award in reading or spelling. She has a blue card that says she's 1/256 degree Cherokee blood.

What are your opinions on this? To most this would be ridiculous or senseless, while to some on this board it may be equivalent to race-mixing. Any opinions on this?

I know that most people have practical notions of what qualifies a person as White. I am just wondering, are there any serious people here who would not consider my girl friend White? Would she be disrespected or not considered a White woman by some here? Would her ancestry prevent you from condoning a marriage between her and your son/brother?

1/256 = 1 6xgreat-grandparent. I wouldn't worry about it & the Cherokees had already absorbed a large quantity of European blood 8 generations ago, so it could be even less then 1/256 Amerindian. Anyway is this woman protected/entitled to special rights as a non-White? No she isn't.

Many Whites in the United States whose ancestors arrived in the 1600 or 1700s have at some point in time picked up a little Native American blood. It's very common.

I think the most important factor is that you have a deep love for one another, common goals, similar religious beliefs, and are on the same page regarding the handling of finances. Also, make sure you have a similar philosophy about raising kids.

I also recommend pre-marriage counseling. A message board is probably not your best place to obtain that.

    Thanks for your responses.

I've seen both her parents birth certificates before. It says both her parents parents 'race or color' is White. I suppose that says it all for her race legally.

I have read on hear quite a few times things like "any drop of non white blood is too much to be white". I was just wondering if some people meant that for real, since, in her case, it seems pretty rediculous.

Many people in Europe carry some genetics from, for example, the invading Tartars, Jewish immigrants, Mediterraneans with African or Arab blood, etc and so forth. I wouldn't agonize over this. Some genetic diversity is a good thing. Too much inbreeding leads to less healthy offspring.

If she looks like a healthy woman, is nurturing and attractive to you, then go for it.

Even the National Socialist under Hitler went for the Arierpass only back to the generation of grandparents.

I wouldn't be concerned about her being caucasian. Obviously she has some interest in native american culture but she seemed to identify herself as caucasian. If she is tolerant to your views I don't see any problem with it.

Your kids would even be more caucasian than her mother.

Hey 2 things. This guy asked the exact same question and read my two responses.

    http://forums.skadi.net/showthread.p...29#post1023729

    1) Most people don't really know what they are until they spend 300 hours doing ancestry work themselves. (I was told by my family that my ancestors were only Native American, Scottish-Irish and French but if you read my sidebar you will see how wrong they were).

    2) If she is native american it is probably EXTREMELY small.

Thanks you all. It's definitely interesting.

She only told me her European ancestry, the first couple months knowing her.

Her card is a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood. Her dad used his 1/128 card once to go to a dentist for free years ago, by a casino.

She is pro-White, only likes to live around Whites and help Whites, etc, but I do find it amusing when white families make note of some microscopic amount of 'Cherokee' blood.
