    Dave Ramsey, Debt-Free Plan

Has anyone heard of Dave Ramsey? We're big fans of his. He helps people live debt-free.

We've paid off all our debt and have almost paid off the house.

The great thing about him is that he tells it like it is. There are no get rich quick schemes. Make good decisions on large purchases (house, used car etc.). And that long term saving is the most important.

My college finance and investment courses were only the logic behind his same form of reasoning.

I have his book (haven't read it yet but I plan to before I get a job to learn how to save in a Roth IRA).

I think debt is a big part of what's wrong in the United States today. Dave always quotes a Bible verse that says "The borrower is slave to the lender". I think that's very true.

Living on credit has become an unfortunate way of life, both on a personal and national level.

Fortunately, my parents are accountants and always taught me never to get into debt (except perhaps when I consider a mortgage for a family home). From them I learnt to wait until I could afford something, rather than borrow money to buy it.

I listen to his show sometimes on the radio and it is good advice. Although personally I could do without the christian overtones.
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.
