    Are You 'Far Right'?

Ed West occasionally pens a good column and earlier this year he provided some interesting benchmarks for determining whether one is on the 'far right' of the political spectrum. The column can be read here:

    http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/ed...not-far-right/

    - An emphasis on race.

    - Anti-big business.

    - Pro-state intervention in the economy.

    - Pro-workers rights but anti-Communist.

    - Nostalgic about the countryside, i.e., rural centered.

    - Often sentimental about animals.

    - Opposed to homosexuality.

    - Prone to belief in conspiracy theories.

    - Anti-American.

    - Anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist.

Of the ten I listed I match two completely and one partially.

I just about ticked the whole list, numbers 3 (pro-state intervention) and 9 (anti-American) being the only two I wouldn't fully subscribe to.

Of the ten listed I match three entirely and two partially, probably more if I were to be of greater generosity in my self-analysis.

I've never really consider myself 'far right', though. I'm not entirely sure how accurate a means of political classification the traditional left/right spectrum is in regards to many of the social situations we find ourselves in today.

I matched race, homosexuality, and partially with anti-Semitic-anti-Zionist as I'm not anti-Zionist. Ironically, the ones I don't match tend to be issues that the 'far right', especially the European 'far right', shares with the left.

You have a point, and the left-right paradigm has long been in need of revision, but it remains due simply to the fact that nothing better has emerged to replace it.

I have views that would fit me into every category. However quite a few of them I am at the lower extremes of the categories.

When I look to the left I see the "Far Right" standing there.

A few of these points I would never think of associating with the "far-right", but for the sake of the topic...

    Absolutely not.

    - Pro-state intervention in the economy.
Same as above; keep the government away from the economy.

    - Pro-workers rights but anti-Communist.
Indifferent, although the fact that most unions are militantly left-wing, if not downright Marxist, tends to turn me against workers rights.

    - Nostalgic about the countryside, i.e., rural centered.
    Yes.

    - Often sentimental about animals.
I am vehemently opposed to the abuse of animals, but I am not a vegetarian.

    - Opposed to homosexuality.
    Yes.

    - Prone to belief in conspiracy theories.
Are aliens secretly on Earth, working in collusion with various world governments? No.

Do Jews control the economy and media? Yes.

    - Anti-American.
No, because most of what prompts anti-Americanism in various circles, nationalist or otherwise, is not the doing of the rightful Germanic/Celtic inhabitants of the United States.

    - Anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist.

I do consider myself to be far-right, whatever the actual definition.

I would fit just about all those. Although I thought state intervention in the economy was supposed to be more of a left wing stance. I don't care as much about the size of businesses so long as they are run by our own people in our own countries. I'd be the biggest zionist in the world if they would all just stay there and desist from European lands.

To varying degrees, for better or worse, I'd say all of those points are associated with rightist movements, particularly on the Continent. Animal rights is a particularly interesting one. Brigitte Bardot and Savitri Devi, both of whom are easily deemed 'far right', share the fixation with animals. In Bardot's case she's used it as a weapon against Muslims.
