For English Speakers, Which Accent Do You Prefer?

which English accent do you like best?

For me it's the Scottish accent, the British accent, and the Southern accent (US). I actually use the Midwestern accent, but I think it's rather boring.

well, anyone from any ethnic group can learn English and create a unique accent, and even individuals have their own ways of pronouncing certain words, so you could argue that every living English-speaking person has their own unique accent lol

I just chose the biggest native English speaking populations for this poll, that's why you don't see Spanglish or the ol' Russian accent in the choices.

The only thing about the British accents is that I usually have trouble understanding some things they say I wonder how my accent sounds to their ears

Despite the fact that I'm a rural boy, I like the British accents, as much as they sound a little posh. I suppose it's more a matter of being used to it though, having spent just over seven years in the UK, so it sounds more natural to me (explaining also my like of the Scottish accent in particular).

The other half of it is probably having sympathy for people who "swallow" the /r/ and /l/ as much as I do, so this explains my like of some English, most South African, definitely the New Zealand accent, and some Irish accents on the "native speaker" count as well as my like of Danish and Swedish accents on the "non-native speaker" count.

The Finnish attempt at speaking English is just - funny. I can myself do a fairly clean Finnish accent. You just have to get the hang of the "long consonants" and velarise virtually any vowel.

I think the Irish accent is the most beautiful. Singers like Bono of U2 and Sinead O'Connor have beautiful voices.

My favorite accents are of the Old South variety. In states like South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi it is still very much in evidence.
In Texas you will still hear the remnants of the Old South accent since it was for many decades a Southern State, although now it is seen more as a Southwestern one.

Most of the Texas branch of my family live in its Eastern parts. Their accent, or rather, their drawl, is a lot softer than what you will encounter in the area I grew up in, which is officially called North Central Texas. My accent has been described as the clichéd Hollywood version of a Texas accent.
When I started traveling as a teenager I would meet people who thought my twangy accent was a little “too affected”.
Huh? I even recorded my voice to find out what the hell they were talking about and could hear nothing out of the ordinary.

If you grew up in Texas you can easily distinguish an East Texas drawl from someone who was raised in Houston, or Lubbock.
If it isn’t done right a Texas accent can sound really trashy.

When I lived in Philadelphia for many years my accent kind of blended in with the South Philly accent, and ultimately blended itself out in the process.
I ended up sounding like a Californian, who have the plainest accents of them all . (Philadelphians love the Texas accent, BTW)
