    Hey

    Hi everyone.

I'm an off-on lurker who tended to run into this site when my curiosity was struck by the 'theory' of racial traits.
I recently studied abroad for a year in Sweden; visiting Europe and seeing the differences between Caucasians from different countries was something of a revelation for me. Growing up in the US, I never really paid attention. People were white or they weren't; I just didn't think about it.

I noticed in Sweden the usual stereotypes - tall, slender, unusual amount of blondes. But I also noticed some features that seemed kind of asiatic, especially in northern Swedes. The same with some Finns I met - a feature I saw often enough that it stuck in my mind - was an unusually high nose, kinda like Ville Valo's. I almost got the impression that some of those northern Swedes were part Finnish, or at least related. Oh, and I also frequently noted young (20-30yrs old) blond (in particular) men already balding or with receding hairlines. It didn't seem to strike the darker haired ones as often?

Yeah, I'm pretty much an amateur. :p But it was an entertaining way to pass the time in airplanes, especially.

As for me, I'm sure I'm about as non-Swedish looking as you can get. I did get a fair few people asking me for directions when I visited London, though. I also have weird facial hair - my hair's brown, but my beard tends to grow in reddish. Incidentally, I don't have a beard. :p

Yeah, I'll stop rambling. I look forward to learning more, as always.

    - Ed

    Welcome here.
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.
