Because I went to the most conservative public University, I took a few classes on subjects that most universities would simply avoid; Racial Inequality, IQ, Poverty, Government Welfare. Some facts we learned would be seen as “insensitive” to certain groups of people however they are 100% true. Because most of you probably will never get a chance to have conservative professors- I feel a great responsibility to educate others.
Please stay with me, (not just because this took me forever to write), but I think these are basic concepts about society that everybody should know.
1) Race, IQ and Behavior
i) All of these statistics have been taken in America or North America, numerous times by many leading researchers (Dr. Richard Lynn and Dr. Tatu Vanhanen, Arthur Jensen among many others) and here are the averages.
• Blacks; Average IQ 80, 70% of black children are illegitimate! been in prison 28.5%, 47% graduate High School, 25% in poverty
• Whites; Average IQ 100, 25% of children are Illegitimate, been in prison before 4.4%, 75% graduate High School, 8.6% in poverty
• Asians; Average IQ 105, Illegitimacy is 10% of Asian children, been in prison 1%, 77% graduate High School, 11.8% in poverty
Notes: The IQ in Sub Saharan Africa is about 70 (Which is the mental age of a 12 year old). So why would African Americans score higher? The average African American is actually 20% white, and 10% American Indian which probably accounts for this difference in 10 points. It is also interesting to note that mixed Black/White children in America score exactly in between the averages for Whites and Blacks in IQ- 90.
This data has spurred a debate about how much of the difference in IQ (and probably also other mental aspects determining behavior; Illegitimacy, Poverty, Crime etc.) is caused by nature (genetics) and how much of this is caused by nurture (family, poverty, community etc.) What you might be surprised to know is that data on this question is widely studied yielding nearly the exact same result every time but the results are never taught in universities (except mine).
ii) Environment vs. Nurture
For the short answer, nurture can only raise IQ about 10 points. This was found by David Armor in his book entitled, Maximizing Intelligence. In fact the differences in IQ were found to be caused 90% by genetics and only 10% by nurture based upon meta analysis tests published in Current Directions in Psychological Science. They study this by analyzing identical twins separated and adopted by different families at birth. And the result is that the IQ differences are usually less than 5 points and on occasion 5-10 points, but almost never more than 10 points of difference. All results were centered about the average for each race. But what are the ramifications of this data?
The answer might shock you, the average high school graduate has an IQ of 105 and the average college graduate has an IQ of 115. This means that many ethnic Sub-Saharan African people, where the average IQ is only 70 will almost never produce any college graduates in the West (especially engineering and the sciences). Not surprisingly, most colleges in Sub Saharan Africa have vastly lower standards for academic testing compared to the west and East Asia. Other research has shown that to build a developed country an IQ threshold of 90 is the bare minimum. The top schools in Africa have an average IQ of 83-85. The average IQ of college professors, doctors, executives, accountants by the west’s standards are almost impossible for sub-Saharan Africans.
2) Unskilled Immigration
What exactly happens economically when a large influx of unskilled immigrants flood a job sector. Well basic economics tells us. Using a supply of labor and demand of labor graph, the effects can be calculated. The influx of Mexican immigration into America has decreased the average unskilled labor job 5% in wage. In certain sectors, like construction the wage has decreased 20%.
The sad thing is that applying what I discussed in section 1), many of the immigrants will have trouble rising to the top of society, (engineers, scientists, doctors etc.). This means that the 5% decrease in unskilled wages is probably here to stay, because they will not move out of unskilled labor.
3) Affirmative Action
Our governments have seen the data on graduation rates, and remember something they learned back in high school- Jim Crow and slavery. So they ignore common sense data what I discussed in section 1) and instead think the only reason for a disparity is that blacks must have been discriminated against. So our government came up with affirmative action and now discriminates against whites and asians.
First, Affirmative action doesn’t increase the rate of blacks going to college- it only changes the college they go to. At the University of Michigan, the average black SAT score is 230 points lower than the average white SAT score. In 2002, .7% of blacks scored a 700 or higher on the math SAT, while 6.2% of whites did. Accounting for population levels, this means that top schools should have 1% of their student bodies’ black, but in reality our top schools are 6% black- clearly showing blacks have much lower standards than whites. Since top Ivy schools like Harvard and Princeton accept blacks with SAT scores between 1200-1300, this leaves lower ranked schools like the University of Michigan (a school I didn’t get into) to have to lower their standards to accept blacks. They accept blacks with SAT scores of 1000-1100, well below their normal level! (250 points lower than my score)!
Mismatching students has serious academic implications, blacks that score at the lower end of their college tend to, not surprisingly, fail at a much higher rate. Furthermore, this mismatching causes blacks to choose easy majors in college; athletics, leadership, education leading to low paying jobs.
In law school, affirmative action is widely practiced. What are the results? 8% of Blacks score in the top 50% of the class. And 50% of blacks score in the bottom 10% of the class! The whole point of law school is to pass the bar exam; 9% of whites fail this exam while 40% of blacks fail this exam. Clearly many of these affirmative action spots have been wasted. Should they have gone to students that scored higher, and had better credentials for the spot regardless of race?
In conclusion, the interesting thing about Affirmative Action is that it ends up hurting the very group it aims to lift up. Egalitarians still think that affirmative action is “social justice”. But in fact they neglect to realize that “mother nature is not an egalitarian”- everybody is not of equal mental ability.
