Germanic does not mean German, but countries from the Germanic language speaking parts of Europe (Or descandants of those people). The sphere are countries in Europe like Germany, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark to mention a few. Welcome to Skadi forum.

    Greetings!

Hi, I'm also new, and nice to hear from you and the US.
I'm also very interested in pre-Christian traditions. It's strange how we hear so much about other cultures but Germania and its influence in the northern lands of Europe is like a gap - the elephant in the room as far as pre-Christian cultures go.
I'm also here to learn more. So far it's like a split for me between a white legend and a black legend. The white legend says the culture was mostly good, while the black legend speaks of human sacrifice and some horrific customs (one thinks of the peat-bog bodies and the myth of the Burning Man). Not surprising really, since the main comments that survive on Germanic culture were written by the Romans, and much of what they wrote must have been colonial propaganda.
I'm also interested in the first few centuries of Christianity, and how it balanced local pagan customs, some of which survived in Christian dress, like Easter. Many of those early forms of Christianity like Arianism or the gnostic sects are also pretty mysterious.

    Nice to read your post!
